PERCEPTION It is the process by which individuals selects, organises, and interpret information from the environment. Perception is a complex cognitive process which differs from person to person. Different people perceives the same information differently i.e. every person has a different perception .
PERCEPTUAL ERRORS At the time of making perception people make errors which are known as perceptual errors. Some of the perceptual errors are: Selective perception Stereotype Halotype Projection Attribution
SELECTIVE PERCEPTION It is a process where a person filters information from the environment on the basis of his needs or background then it is known as selective perception. If the person is received half of the information it becomes the basis of wrong interpretation.
STEREOTYPE When we judge a person on the basis of the group to which he belongs then it result into misperception. The j udgement can be on the basis of groups like age group, gender (all females are suppose to do only household work), nationality, geographic or region etc.
HALOTYPE This is a misperception which occurs when an impression is formed about an individual on the basis of single characteristics then the problem of poor decision making occur. Eg: good communication or bad communication, good or bad physical appearance.
PROJECTION It means seeing one’s own characteristic in other people. If a person is honest then he perceives other person as honest and trustworthy. This kind of situation creates problem because other people may not be equally and honest
ATTRIBUTION It is a concept of socio- psychology. In this the person gives explaination to understand the cause and effect. We have different positive explaination for ourselves at the time of success or failure while for others there are different and negative explainations for their success and failure.
