PERFORMANCE EVALUATION PRESENTED BY: Dr.HEENA DIXIT 201938204015 GUIDED BY: Dr. NAGMA SHAH Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

What is Performance Evaluation Kollberg et al.defines performance evaluation as ‘the process of collecting, computing, and presenting quantified constructs for the managerial purposes of following up, monitoring, and improving organizational performance. Performance evaluation is an integral part of health care. Its primary aim is to measure the quality of health services with the ultimate goal of improving health outcomes. Hospital performance may be defined according to the achievement of specified targets, either clinical or administrative. If used effectively performance evaluation can result in wide ranging benefits for both patients and clinicians by ensuring the best use of limited resources and continuosly improving the quality of care. Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

PURPOSE OF EVALUATION To plan future course of an action based on a known baseline with a view to improve quantum and quality of care. Ensuring the effective utilization of staff and facilities available. To assess effectiveness of health programme put into practice. Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

What are the methods of performance measurement? There are five different types of principle of measurement of hospital performance: Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

What is a Healthcare KPI? A healthcare Key Performance Indicator (KPI) or metric is a well-defined performance measure that is used to observe, analyze, optimize, and transform a healthcare process to increase satisfaction for both patients and healthcare providers . These metrics are commonly used by care facilities to compare their performance to other care facilities and identify areas of improvement. Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

Why any hospital Should Be Using Healthcare Specific KPIs To provide the best possible care, ensuring optimal hospital performance, and effectively managing occupancy and costs. To do this, most healthcare facilities have transitioned from paper to digital record keeping. Patient charts and records are now input into a digital database. This reduces the amount of “lost” patient information and makes it easier for care providers to access a patient’s files as they are all kept in one central location. While this digital revolution makes things easier for healthcare providers and creates a higher quality of care, it can also provide a quantitative analysis of the operational performance at a hospital . Patient data can be extracted and transformed into healthcare KPIs that can be monitored on a dashboard or provided to executives in the form of reporting. Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

Operational Healthcare KPIs Operational healthcare KPIs focus on the performance of the healthcare facility. Improving on these metrics will help our hospital to increase operational efficiency, in turn optimizing operational costs and increasing patient satisfaction. Average Hospital Stay = Total Stay Duration / Total Number of Stays 2. Bed or Room Turnover = Number of Discharges (including deaths) / Number of Beds 3. Medical Equipment Utilization 4. Average Patient Wait Time = Total Wait Time / Number of Patients Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

Healthcare Financial Metrics These healthcare financial metrics include costs associated with treatments, claims, and human capital. They play a key role in identifying and reducing inefficiencies. As such, it is strongly recommended to include these in our healthcare reporting solution. 1. Patient Drug Cost Per Stay = Total Drug Cost / Number of Stays 2. Average Treatment Charge = Total Treatment Charges / Number of Treatments 3. Insurance Claim Processing Time 4. Claims Denial Rate (%) = (Number of Denied Claims / Total Number of Claims) * 100 5. Average Cost per Discharge = Total Cost of Discharges / Number of Discharges 6. AR Turnover = Net Credit Sales / Average Revenue 7. Net Profit Margin = Net Income / Net Sales Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

Healthcare Facility KPIs for Monitoring Internal Processes Internal KPIs in healthcare are built around staff and internal processes. Staff management is a huge part of ensuring your organization’s success. This area revolve around training and safety. This internal healthcare KPI list should be used in conjunction with the operational and financial this gives an understanding of how our care facility is operating. 1. Error Rate (%) = (Number of Treatment Errors / Total Treatments) * 100 2. Training per Department: To ensure proper care is given, healthcare facilities will track the amount of training that staff in each department receive. 3. Cancellation Rate (%) = (Number of Missed Appointments / Total Number of Appointments) * 100 4. Readmission Rates (%) = (Number of Readmissions / Number of Discharges) * 100 5. Patient Safety Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

Public Healthcare Metrics 1. Childhood Immunization Rate: Childhood Immunization Rate (%) = (Number of Children Immunized / Total Number of Children) * 100 2. Number of Educational Programs Emergency department healthcare KPIs are metrics focused on patient survival. 1. Patient Mortality Rate: Patient Mortality Rate (%) = (Number of Patients Deaths / Total Number of Patients) * 100 2. Emergency Room Wait Time: Emergency Room Wait Time = Total Wait Time / Number of Patient Emergency Department KPIs Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION

Care Quality Metrics in Healthcare Quality of care metrics are helpful for two different reasons. When a patient receives high quality care, there is a lower chance of readmission and a higher rate of patient satisfaction. following are our top care quality metrics in healthcare: 1. Staff-to-Patient Ratio: Staff-to-Patient Ratio = Number of Staff : Number of Patients 2. Patient Follow-Up Rate: Patient Follow-Up Rate (%) = (Number of Follow-Ups / Total Number of Patients) *100 3. Overall Patient Satisfaction : This is a healthcare metric that calculates patient satisfaction. This can be a great marketing tool for our organization if satisfaction is high, if a low satisfaction level could signal a problem with the facility and its service. Dr. HEENA DIXIT PRESENTATION
