INTRODUCTION It is also called as perineal genital care, involves cleaning the private areas of a patient. Because this area is prone to infections, it must be cleaned at least daily ,and more if a person is suffering from incontinence

EXTERNAL GENITALIA

DEFINITION It can be defined as washing the external genitalia and it’s surroundings with soap and water or water alone or in combination with any commercially prepared peri wash.

PURPOSE To prevent or eliminate infection, odor,and promote healing Remove secretion and To provide comfort

PRINCIPLES To clean the perineum from the cleanest to the less clean area. Follow standard precautions. Maintain patient’s privacy. Proximal level of functioning

INDICATIONS Patient who are unable to do self care. Patient with genito- urinary infection. Patient with incontinence of urine and stool. Patient with indwelling catheter. Post partum patients. Patient with injury, ulcer or surgery.

CONTRAINDICATIONS Perineal malformation. Inflammatory bowel disease

ARTICLES A tray containing - -Mackintosh -a bowl with cotton swab & gauze piece -A jug with warm water or antiseptic solutions -Long artery forcep -Kidney tray To protect the bed To clean the perineum To wash the dirty area -To hold the swab -To receive wet waste Articles Purpose

CONT.. Paper bag Clean linen,pad,dressing etc.as needed Bed pan To keep dry waste To keep the patient clean It the wants to pass stool Articles Purpose

PREPARE THE PATIENT Explain procedure to the patient Provide privacy by screening Remove all articles which interfere the procedure Give extra pillows to raise head Roll the draw sheet to opposite side to prevent soiling

PREPARE THE ENVIRONMENT Good lightening Screening Close the windows and doors as well Switch off the fans Provide cool and comfortable environment

PROCEDURE Wash hand Pour water over perineum Hold the swab with forceps& Clean the perineum using the wet swab To prevent cross infection To wash off the discharge from the perineal are To prevent the entrance of bacteria from the urinary tract STEPS RATIONALE

CONT… Hold the swab with forceps & clean perineum the midline outward like wise the vulva, the labia both inside & outside To keep the patient clean & prevent from further injuries STEPS RATIONALE

AFTER CARE Apply the medicine and pad if necessary Remove the Mackintosh Change the linen Make the patient comfortable Clean all articles Boil forceps

CONCLUSION Maternal and health care related factors were associated to the prevalence and degree of spontaneous perineal tear. First degree spontaneous perineal tears were prevalent and suture in a low no.of women
