HELLO We are Akshay&Anandhu 1

Peripheral Devices (Input devices)

What are Peipheral devices ? A peripheral devices is any external services that provides input and output for the computer For example, a keyboard and mouse are input peripherals. while a monitor and printer are output peripherals. It is sometimes called “I/O devices” because they provide input and output for the computer. Some peripherals such as hard drives are storage devices. 3

Input Devices An input device is a hardware or peripheral device used to send data to a computer 4

Optical readers 5 An  optical reader  is a device found in scanners. It captures information on paper and translates that image into digital information. T he computer is capable of understand and display this digital information.

Optical Mark Reader(OMR) Optical Mark Reader(OMR ) is a method of entering data into a computer system. Optical Mark Readers reads pencil or pen marks made in pre-defined positions on paper forms as responses to questions or tick list prompts. OMR technology scans a printed form and reads predefined positions and records where marks are made on the form. This technology is useful for applications in which large numbers of hand-filled forms are required. 6

Optical Character Recognition - Scanner OCR is a technology that recognizes text within a digital image. It is commonly used to recognize text in scanned documents. It  can convert printed or handwritten characters into machine-encoded text or something that the computer can manipulate. Widely used as a form of information entry from printed paper data records – whether passport documents, invoices , bank statements computerised receipts, business cards, 7

A barcode reader is a hand-held or stationary input device used to capture and read information contained in a barcode. It is generally found in supermarkets and large departmental stores. It is a type of scanner which is used for reading printed barcodes . Bar code reader 8

QR Code A QR code (quick response code) is a type of 2D bar code that is used to provide easy access to information through a smartphone.  Once scanned, software on the device converts the dots within the code into numbers or a  string of characters. For example, scanning a QR code with your phone might open a URL in your phone's  wed browser. All QR codes have a square shape and include three square outlines in the bottom-left, top-left, and top-right corners. 9

QR Scanner 10   A QR Code is a two-dimensional barcode that is readable by smartphones. It allows to encode over 4000 characters in a two dimensional barcode. QR Codes may be used to display text to the user, to open a URL, save a contact to the address book or to compose text messages. The best way to figure out if your device can read QR Codes is to open your Camera app and point it steady for 2-3 seconds towards the QR Code you want to scan.
