Nasal decongestants are medications used to relieve nasal congestion caused by conditions like the common cold, allergies, and sinusitis. They primarily work by stimulating α-adrenergic receptors, leading to vasoconstriction of nasal blood vessels, reducing swelling and improving airflow.

Common sympathomimetic decongestants include phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine, and oxymetazoline. These drugs are available in oral and topical (nasal spray) forms. While effective, prolonged use of nasal sprays can lead to rebound congestion (rhinitis medicamentosa).
