Introduction The Poison Act, 1919 was passed to regulate the import, Possession and sale of poisons in India. >The central government regulate the import of poisons in India >The state government regulate and make rules for a possession And sale of poisons in their areas

Objectives of poison act To regulate and control the import, possession and sale of poisons in India To prevent Suicides using Poisons.

Import of Poison The Centra Government is empowered to prohibit any poison for importation except under and in accordance with the conditions of a license. It may make rules to grant such license.

Possession of poison The state governments regulate the possession of poison in their Administration area , and provide licensing system for possession and Sale of poisons for wholesale and retail sale of any specified poison .

Possession for sale and sale of any poison The government grant licence for possession and sale of poisons with Some conditions : -The grant of licenses to posses any specified poison for wholesale or retail sale and fixing of the fee to be laid for such license. -The classes of person to whom only these licence maybe issued -The classes of persons to whom only the specified poison may be Sold the maximum quantity of the specified poison for sale to a single Person -the poisons should be in safe custody, with proper labelling over Container or covering holding the poisons for sale. -The maintenance of sale register by the seller.

Offences and Penalties If someone violates the Act, He or She will be punished with imprisonment for 3 months or a fine of 500 rupees or both on first conviction, and on subsequent Conviction imprisonment of 6 months and or a fine of 1000 Rs, or both.
