ADVANTAGES
Markedenhancementofbioavailability.
Valuablecomponentsoftheherbalextractsareprotectedfromdestruction
bydigestivesecretionsandgutbacteria
Nocompromiseofnutrientsafety.
Doserequirementisreducedduetoabsorptionofchiefconstituent.
Phytosomesshowsbetterstabilityprofilebecausechemicalbondsare
formedbetweenphospholipidmoleculesandphytoconstituent

DISADVANTAGE
•Phytoconstituentis quickly eradicated/ eliminated from phytosome.
Lowriskprofile:Thistechnologyhasnolarge-scaledrugdevelopmentrisk

EVALUATION
Transitiontemperature:
Thetransitiontemperatureofthevesicularlipidsystemcanbesettled
viadifferentialscanningcalorimetry.
Entrapmentefficiency:
Theentrapmentefficiencyofaphytosomalpreparationcanbe
determinedbyexposingthepreparationtoultracentrifugation
method.
Vesiclesizeandzetapotential:
Theparticlesizeandzetapotentialofphytosomescanbeconfirmed
bydynamiclightscattering,whichusagesacomputerized
examinationsystemandphotoncorrelationspectroscopy.
Surfacetensionactivitymeasurement:
Thesurfacetensionactivityofthedruginaqueoussolutioncanbe
determinedbytheDuNouyringtensiometer.

Visualization:
Visualizationofphytosomescanbeaccomplishedusingscanning
electronmicroscopy(SEM)andbytransmissionelectronmicroscopy.
Vesiclestability:
Thesteadinessofvesiclescanbemeasuredbycalculatingthesizeand
structureofthevesiclesovertime.ThemeansizeiscalculatedbyDLS
