THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS: PRINCIPLE AND ETHICS SUBMITTED BY: ANGEL MAE R. TORRES -1D SUBMITTED TO: JAPHET MARI GARGANeRA
WHAT IS COMMUNICATION? Communication is the process of conveying information, ideas, or feelings through language or other means.
THE COMPONENTS OF THE COMMUNICATION PROCESS
SOURCE The sender carefully crafts the message. The sender may be anyone: an author of a book, a public speaker in a special occasion or even a traffic enforcer.
2. message The message is the information, idea, or feeling being conveyed by the source. It's the content that's being shared.
3. channel The channel is the medium through which the message travels from the source to the receiver. It’s how the message is sent, like speech, writing, or visual signal.
4. receiver The receiver is the person, group, or entity who receives the message from the source. They are the intended audience of the communication.
5. FEEDBACK Feedback is the receiver's response to the message, letting the source know that the message was received and understood. It can be verbal, nonverbal, or written.
6. environment The environment refers to the surrounding context in which the communication takes place. It includes factors like physical setting, cultural norms, and the emotional state of those involved.
7. context Context is the background information that helps to understand the meaning of the message. It includes factors like the time, place, and previous interactions between the sender and receiver.
8. interference Interference is anything that disrupts the clear transmission and reception of a message. It can be external noise, like a loud conversation, or internal distractions, like a lack of focus.
FOUR KINDS OF INTERFERENCE
PSYCHOLOGICAL BARRIERS Psychological barriers are internal factors that block effective message transmission and reception. They stem from our thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and perspectives, affecting how we interpret and respond to messages.
LINGUISTIC AND CULTURAL BARRIERS Linguistic and cultural barriers are differences in language, dialect, and cultural norms that can hinder understanding and effective communication. They involve variations in vocabulary, grammar, idioms, and even non-verbal cues.
MECHANICAL BARRIERS Mechanical barriers are problems with the tools and technology used to send and receive messages. This could be a faulty phone, a bad internet connection, or even a noisy environment that makes it hard to hear.
THE NINE PRINCIPLES OF EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION Michael Osborn (2009) claims that communication must meet certain standards for effective communication to take place.

ETHICAL CONSIDERATIONS IN COMMUNICATION Ethics is a branch of philosophy that focuses on issues of right and wrong in human affairs.
ETHICAL COMMUNICATORS: Respect audience Consider the result of communication Value truth Use information correctly Do not falsify information
