IDEA DEVELOPMENT My initial idea for the documentary is to base it around football and the genre is obviously sport. I will be sticking to this one idea because I know the route that I want to go down when creating the documentary. Football is a worldwide phenomenon and is loved by most but in the Northeast, the passion is different. Both Sunderland and Newcastle have rich history and their fans are very passionate. My documentary will involve the history of the two clubs, the hatred for one another, classic goals in games between the two sides and finally, interviews with Sunderland/Newcastle fans on their feelings and thoughts about their club.

CLIENT RESEARCH Sunderland Culture brings together some of Sunderland’s most cherished cultural venues and works to realise the ambition of a city brimming with creative potential. They are a partnership between the University of Sunderland, Sunderland City Council and the Sunderland Music, Arts and Culture Trust, a registered charity and an Arts Council England Portfolio organisation. Sunderland Culture delivers the creative programme in five venues in Sunderland; National Glass Centre and Northern Gallery of Contemporary Art (owned by University of Sunderland), Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens, Arts Centre Washington and The Fire Station (which is owned by the MAC Trust), as well as with communities around the city. They also offer a year-round programme of everything from music, theatre, spoken word and dance, to exhibitions and creative workshops. Anything for local talent people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to get involved. Sunderland Culture is heavily invested in students, the role they play in the city’s culture and development and supporting them to thrive. They regularly offer different opportunities which are to respond to the current programme for student to interact and gain new skills and experience. This may include professional development opportunities such as internships and volunteering work.

AUDIENCE RESEARCH AND TARGET AUDIENCE Sunderland Culture thrives on trying to grow existing and building new audiences and opportunities to take part for people who live in Sunderland with a particular focus on artists and creative businesses, ethnically diverse communities and people with disabilities, autism or additional needs. The aim is to engage young people and educate them on local talent, with the aim of developing the city’s cultural awareness and diversity. For this brief, Sunderland Culture specified that the target audience is 16–25-year-olds.

DOCUMENTARY SURVEY RESULTS In response to the first question, 85.7% of my audience watch documentaries so due to the majority , I know that will be the easiest route instead of doing a short film in a separate field I that I am unsure about. For the second question, I was able to collect multiple responses due to everyone’s interests being different. This will help vary my thoughts and feelings to narrow down the exact genre of documentary I will create. Question 3 was narrowly the same responses as two, the main responses was that it needed to interest them as a viewer, and it would help if there was key information throughout the story of the documentary. For the final question, I collected a whole list of different genres as everyone has their favourite documentary and these questions helped me gather a clear idea.

FEEDBACK The feedback that I received from my pitch was very positive. I had taken my time into researching the client needs. My peers said they had a clear understanding of my intentions for the documentary. On the idea, they specified that they could relate to the documentary topic so they will be looking forward to watching the final product.
