PITCH NAMES OF THE G-CLEF STAFF AND F-CLEF STAFF

Pitches are represented by notes that are written on a staff

The STAFF has five lines and four spaces

The pitches placed on the lines and spaces of the staff are named after the first seven letters of the alphabet A, B , C , D , E , F and G

These are called the LETTER NAMES or ABSOLUTE PITCH NAMES.

The letter names of the lines and spaces of the staff depend on the clef used.

A clef is a symbol found on the left side of the staff , which indicates the high and low pitches written on it .

There are two clefs that are commonly used , the Treble Clef or G-clef and the Bass Clef or F-clef.

The treble clef or G-clef wraps around the second line of the staff to tell that it is the G line

The Line notes on the G- Cleff

Some pitches are written on the ledger lines above or below the staff. The ledger lines are short lines above or below the staff. These lines are only visible when there are notes written on them.

Melodic Contour Lesson 2

Melodic Contour The shape of melody Refers to the movement or direction of melodies.

A melody may move in ascending or descending order The pitches within melody may move by step , skip or repetition.

In stepwise motion , the melody moves in either ascending or descending motion . STEP UP STEP DOWN

In skipwise motion , the melody moves by skips or leaps in either ascending or descending motion SKIP UP SKIP DOWN

If a melody consists of Repeated Notes , the melody is said to have no movement. It stays on the same note or pitch. REPETITION

MELODIC INTERVAL is the distance between two consecutive pitches a melody contains a succession of melodic intervals.

NAME OF THE MELODY INTERVALS

The intervals are easily determined by counting the number of lines and spaces in the given interval .

Start counting from the first note, then count each line and space up to the last note of the given intervals

RANGE is the distance between the lowest and highest note (pitches) . some melodies have a WIDE RANGE and some have a NARROW RANGE

NARROW RANGE LOWEST PITCH/NOTES HIGHEST PITCH

WIDE RANGE LOWEST PITCH/NOTES HIGHEST PITCH
