Placental mammals Placental mammal is a mammal whose embryos develop inside mother's body. The embryo grow in an organ called the uterus. Gestation period in mammals : the length of time between fertilization and birth. Elephants need 23 months! Mice need only a few weeks! Human need 9 months.

Placenta An organ called placenta attaches embryo to the uterus. Placenta carries oxygen and food from the mother’s blood to the embryo and carries wastes away from the embryo.
