5. PLANE TABLE SURVEY 8/1/2024 5 It is a graphical method of survey in which the field observations and plotting proceed simultaneously . The field observation are recorded side by side on the sheet fixed on the plane table and map of the field is prepared.

7. 8/1/2024 7 PLANE TABLE The plane table is a drawing board of size 750 mm * 600 mm and of well-seasoned wood like teak, pine, etc. The top surface is well levelled. The bottom surface consist of a threaded circular plate for fixing the table on the tripod stand by a wing nut. Fig: Plane Table

12. Bubble tube or spirit level The essential condition in plane table surveying is that board should be levelled. It is placed on the board is cantered in each position to make board horizontal. In bubble tube liquid is filled which is alcohol. 8/1/2024 12 Fig: Spirit Level

13. TROUGH COMPASS It is 15cm long and is provided to plot the magnetic meridian (N-S direction) to facilitate. The orientation of the plane table in magnetic meridian. 14. ALIDADE An alidade is an instrument used for sighting the point in plane-table surveying. One edge of ruler is beveled, or Fiducial and other end is graduated (used for drawing line of sight). It is a wooden or brass ruler of 50-60 cm in length. Two vanes are hinged at its two ends i.e. object vanes and sight vane. A scale is attached to the fiducial edge so as to plot distance to the needle. 8/1/2024 14
