Objective
Purpose of this presentation is to educate
about Planned Parenthood.

Provider of Health Information and
Services
We are a trusted health care provider, an
informed educator, a passionate advocate,
and a global partner helping similar
organizations around the world.
Planned Parenthood delivers vital health care
services, sex education, and sexual health
information to millions of women, men, and
young people.

History
Founder of Planned Parenthood: Margaret Sanger
Original Missions:
Providing contraception and other health services to
women and men
Funding research on birth control and education
specialists and the public about the results
Advancing access to family planning in the United
States and around the world.

History cont.
Started 1916 with birth control clinic in
Brooklyn, New York by Sanger, her sister,
and a friend.
1916 birth control was illegal.
Planned Parenthood was not respected until
the 1960s.
They gave small grants to researchers
developing first birth control pills.

History Cont.
Planned Parenthood worked for access to family
planning for all women- rich, middle class, and poor.
In 1966 this became a central element of the War on
Poverty.
In 1971 Planned Parenthood establishes an
international program, largely funded by the U.S.
Agency for International Development. Within 15
years Planned Parenthood’s international division is
the largest U.S. nongovernmental provider of family
planning services, reaching millions of women and
men in developing countries.

About…
Our 108 local governed affiliates nationwide
operate more than 860 health centers.
Purpose is to inform and educate the
community how to prevent unintended
pregnancies and reduce the spread of
sexually transmitted infections.

How?
Planned Parenthood provides young people
with information through online websites and
in classrooms.
Planned Parenthood is a visible and
passionate advocate for policies that enable
Americans to access comprehensive sexual
and reproductive health care, education, and
information.

Political Views
They believe in the constitutional right of
individuals
Including freedom of reproductive choice
Oppose using the Republican Party to
impose specific religious beliefs that restrict
an individual’s right to make private, moral
decisions.

Political Leaning
Because they support what is originally
stated in the constitution, they have more
conservative views.

Major Issues
Family Planning
Birth Control
Education
 Prevention of HIV/AIDS and other STDs.
Access to reproductive health care
They strongly believe that anyone deciding to
have an abortion has right to seek and obtain
safe legal abortion services.

Part of Political Process
They campaign against anti-choice
movements and politicians.

President of Planned Parenthood
Cecile Richards is president of Planned
Parenthood Federation of America and the
Planned Parenthood Action Fund.
She formed and served as president of Pro-
Choice Vote, the largest 527 political
committee in the 2000 election.

and are run by many volunteers.
The main goal is to provide for the public and
educate the community.
