Plastic surgery Plastic and reconstructive surgery involves the treatment of congenital defects and anatomical abnormalities caused by disease and injury. Restoration of form and function is the primary goal of treatment . Plastic and reconstructive surgery crosses nearly all subspecialties and varies from simple procedures to extremely complex and technically demanding operations. Aesthetic surgery , also called cosmetic surgery , is performed to improve the appearance but does not always address function.

Plastic Surgeries Scar Revision: Excision and repair of a scar to effect improved cosmesis or function or both. Skin Grafting: The transplantation of skin to cover a defect . Cleft Lip Repair: Correction of a congenital deformity due to a fusion failure of the upper lip of the fetus.

Cleft Palate Repair: Correction of a congenital defect, split, or opening in the palate due to failure of the hard palate to fuse while the fetus is developing. Reduction of a Nasal Fracture: Realignment and fixation of fractured nasal cartilage, bones, and/or septum. Reduction of a Mandibular Fracture: Correction of malocclusion of the jaws resulting from a fracture of the lower jaw.

Reduction of a Zygomatic Fracture: Correction of fracture(s) of the cheek bones . Open Reduction of Orbital Floor Fracture: Elevation and restoration of bone integrity supporting the eye and intraorbital contents. Rhinoplasty : Modification of the external appearance of the nose Blepharoplasty Excision of redundant muscle and skin of the eyelids to enhance one’s physical appearance.

Reduction Mammoplasty/ Mammaplasty : Excision of breast tissue hyperplasia with recontouring of the breasts Augmentation Mammoplasty: Implantation of breast prostheses to enhance the appearance of the breasts Liposuction and Tumescent Liposuction/Suction-Assisted Lipectomy : Removal of localized deposits of excessive subcutaneous fat by suctioning.

WEBSTER NEEDLE HOLDER Use: Used for holding small suture needles during delicate procedures. Description: A small, fine needle holder with carbide cross-hatch pattern serrations on the inner jaws

Name: Ryder slim-needle holder Alias: none Category: suturing Use: holding delicate suture needles Length: 5" or 6" Additional Information: smooth (shown ) or cross-serrated jaws

Name: Castroviejo micro-needle holder Alias: micro-needle holder Category: suturing Use: holding fine suture material for suturing Length: 5.4" Additional Information: straight ( shown) or curved jaws

Name: Bishop-Harmon forceps Alias: none Category: grasping Use: grasping fine tissue; applying dressings Length: 3.5" Additional Information: 1 2 teeth ( tissue forceps) or serrated tips ( dressing forceps); delicate ( 0.3-mm) or standard (0.5-mm) tip

Name: Clodius elevator Alias: none Category: cutting Use: removing periosteum from the bone Length: 7.5" Additional Information: useful in limited-access areas

MATHIEU RETRACTOR Alias : Cat paw Use: Used for retracting skin edges and shallow wound edges. Additional Information : The Mathieu is a double-ended handheld retractor. One end has three sharp or blunt curved prongs , and the other end is a flat, laterally bent narrow strip

Name: liposuction cannulas Alias: none Category: suctioning Use: suctioning/aspirate fat from under the skin during liposuction procedures Length: various sizes and lengths for different areas of the body Additional Information: n/a

Name: dermatome Alias: none Category: cutting Use: cutting skin grafts of uniform thickness Length: n/a Additional Information: have sterile mineral oil available to lubricate skin prior to cutting skin graft; skin must be held taut while cutting the graft; various blade sizes available

Name: hand grafting knife Alias: none Category: cutting Use: cutting skin grafts; débriding wound Length: n/a Additional Information: single-use blade attaches to knife handle

Freeman nipple-marking template Alias: Areola Maker Use: Used for marking an incision line around the areola for a reduction mammoplasty and for marking tissue to become the new areola during reconstruction mammoplasty. Additional Information : The areola marker is a circular tube with a flat metal ring in the center. These range in size from 24 to 50 mm in diameter.

IRIS SCISSORS Use: Cut tissues during fine dissection. Additional Information : Small curved or straight scissors with fine blades and sharp tips. Straight iris scissors are sometimes used to cut very delicate sutures. Curved scissors are for tissue dissection only.
