CONCEPT The use of smaller diameter abutment on a larger diameter implant collar. Shifts the perimeter of the implant-abutment junction (IAJ) inward toward the central axis of the implant. Reduces crestal bone loss. 5

HISTORY Accidental finding ! In 1980s, dental implant manufacturers introduced wider diameter implants (5-6 mm). When introduced matching-diameter prosthetic components were unavailable.
