Regular Nouns Nouns that form their plural by adding –s or - es

Adding -s Examples Egg- Egg s Table- Table s Pen-Pen s

Adding - es Nouns ending in – ss , - sh , - ch , -x and –z form their plural by adding – es .

Examples End with ss Class- Class es End with ch Church-Church es End with sh Wish- Wish es End with x Box- Box es End with z Buzz- Buzzes End with x Box- Box es End with z Buzz- Buzzes End with x Box- Box es End with z Buzz- Buzz es

Some Nouns ending in –o form their plural by adding - es Examples: Tomato- Tomato es Potato- Potato es

However, most nouns that end in -o form their plural by adding –s only. Examples: Radio- Radio s Piano- Piano s

Irregular Nouns Some nouns ending in f/ fe from their plural by changing f to v before adding – es Examples: Lea f - Leav es Li fe - Lives

Exceptions: Handkerchief- Handkerchief s Roof - Roof s

Some Nouns that end in –y form their plural by changing y to -i before adding – es Examples: Candy- Cand ies Sky- Sk ies

However, when the letter before –y is a vowel , just add s. Examples: Boy- boy s Key- key s

Some Nouns are the same in both forms Fish- Fish Sheep-Sheep Deer-Deer

For some Nouns, other letters must be replaced Person-People Ox-Oxen Child- Children Goose-Geese
