The National Literacy Trust conducted an Annual Literacy Survey in early 2022, they asked more than 60,000 children and young people aged 8 to 18 across the UK whether they read or write poetry. Perception of Reading 72% are the none reader or writer. 28% are the percentage of children who read or write poetry. 28% 72%
Statistics Statistics of children and young people reading poems outside of school in the United Kingdom (UK) from 2017 to 2023. According to Amy Watson of STATISTICA the number of children and young people that engage themselves in poetry are decreasing from 22.6% to 19.2% from 2017 to 2023.
Significance of Poetry Poetry can help children improve their creativity by encouraging them to think new words to and improve their vocabulary at the same time. They may also improve their knowledge about relationship between words and literacy skill.
