Polynesia
Polynesia is a densely populated area of the world. For example if you take all
of the independent countries and find an average population density, you’ll
find it is very small.
The world’s population density is 50.95. The average population density for
the four independent Polynesian islands is 340.27. With is well above the
worlds average.
Geographically, Polynesia is a stretch of
islands, which go from Oceania to the
Americas through the Pacific Ocean.
Many of the islands are ex French or
British colonies. This probably has a lot
to do with the high population density
around Polynesia. In New Zealand for
example, around 78% of people are of
European descent. Most of the Europeans
went centuries ago, but still, due to the
good weather more Europeans are going
over.
One of the reasons that there is a high
population density in Polynesia is that they form stepping stones from
Oceania and the Americas. This meant that when native Americans and
Native Oceania’s were going to explore, they would keep hopping from island
to island, leaving some people at each island, which led to a high population
density.
Because of heavy British influence in Polynesia, most islands have Major
Rugby Union teams, regardless of size. Most of the teams have successful
players who, like in football, play in the leagues of Europe. So exports of
Rugby players and of Produce are one of the things the Polynesian islands
rely on for a good economy. Some of Polynesia’s main exports of produce
include wine, fruit, coffee, vanilla and cocoa beans.
