POPULATION EXPLOSION Population explosion is not only a problem in India, but all over the world. The population of India was around 361 million during the census of 1951. It reached over 1.34 billion now. India, is the second most populous country in the world, while China is on the top. With the population growth rate at 1.2%, India is predicted to have more than 1.53 billion people by the end of 2030. POPULATION EXPLOSION
WHAT IS POPULATION EXPLOTION Population Explosion refers the sudden and rapid rise in the size of population. A drastic growth in population beyond normal limits is called population explosion. It is more prominent in under-developed and developing countries. POPULATION EXPLOSION
CAUSES OF POPULATION EXPLOTION POPULATION EXPLOSION
EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOTION POPULATION EXPLOSION
HOW POPULATION EXPLOTION EFFECT THE ENVIRONMENT More population means more mouths to eat food which requires more agricultural production. More cultivable land has been made available by clearing forests and by reclaiming wet lands and ponds. Advanced agriculture requires utilization of more water, more fertilizers and more pesticides. And it demands more space to construct houses and availability of more consumer goods. It also requires more means of transport, more consumption of fossil fuels, and more pollution of land, air and water thus growth of population leads to pollution of land, water and air POPULATION EXPLOSION
Due to his destructive activities, man has dumped more and more waste in environment. As the man-made waste is not transformed, it causes degradation and the capacity of environment to absorb more waste is reduced. Further, waste leads to air and water pollution . Generation of waste EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT POPULATION EXPLOSION
EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOTION ON ENVIRONMENT As the population grows, more And more forests are cleared. The two most common reasons for deforestations are to make houses for increased number of people to live in, and to use wood as a fuel in the industries. As a result the trees that help us in reducing the air pollution through the process of photosynthesis are not able to do so any more. POPULATION EXPLOSION AIR POLLUTION
EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT POPULATION EXPLOSION water is considered the essence of life . T he increasing population calls for the increasing numbers of factories. These factories lead to various kinds of pollution, including water pollution. Also, India being an agrarian country, the water pollution also comes from pesticides used for agriculture . Water pollution
Forests have moderate influence against floods and thus they protect us from the soil erosion. Forests also play an important role in enhancing the quality of environment by influencing the ecological balance and life support system. Continuing deforestation has brought major ecological and socio- economic crisis . EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT POPULATION EXPLOSION DEFORESTATION
POPULATION EXPLOSION EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT The ozone layer has been gradually ruined by the effect of CFCs. Other chemicals, such as bromine halocarbons, nitrous oxides from fertilizers, nitrogen oxides and methane may also attack the ozone layer. The concentration of CFCs has been increased as the human population has grown, and the thickness of ozone layer has been lesser to the extent that a hole has been formed. Antarctica was an early victim. DEPLETION OF OZONE LAYER
EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT POPULATION EXPLOSION More than 1.1 billion people live in areas that conservationists considers the richest in non-human species and most threatened by the human activities. Modern agricultural practices destroyed the precious micro ecosystem that take centuries to form and support all life on land. EXTINCTION OF SPECIES
The demand for food, energy band other human requirements depends upon the preservation and improvement of the productivity of land. Intensive farming and excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides have led to over exploitation of land and water resources. These have led to land degradation in the form of soil erosion, water logging and salination . POPULATION EXPLOSION EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT LAND/SOIL DEGRADATION
Underdeveloped countries are following the policy of heavy industrialization which is causing environmental degradation. The establishment of such industries as fertilizers, iron and steel, chemicals and refineries have led to land, air and water pollution. EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT POPULATION EXPLOSION Industrialization
Rapid growth of population has led to urbanization which has adversely affected environment. Due to population pressure, natural resources in the cities are depleted at a fast rate due to population pressure . U rbanization EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT POPULATION EXPLOSION
The automobiles release huge quantities of poisonous gases such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and hydrocarbons. The development of ports and harbors have led to oil spills from ships adversely affecting fisheries , coral reefs , mangroves and landscapes . EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT POPULATION EXPLOSION Transport development
EFFECTS OF POPULATION EXPLOSION ON ENVIRONMENT POPULATION EXPLOSION Climatic changes are irregular due to green house gases. Urban people are still being exposed to unaccepted levels of toxic pollutants. Further, forests are still being degraded by acid deposition generated by faraway industries, and greenhouse gases continue to accumulate in the atmosphere . Climatic Change
