Post-production B2 – Lydia

Editing 2 Sample Footer Text This is where I started the editing process. I began by doing my editing on premier pro. I played around with multiple ideas , adding in shots and videos. I experimented with the first draft consisting of 5 minutes. I added in multiple transitions to the first five minutes. I reflected and changed some of these to what I felt would fit better. On this screenshot we can see that I was editing the speed colours and timings of my short film as I wanted a slow blur at the very start.

Editing Sample Footer Text 3 When editing my second draft I decided to make it a bit longer by adding in more shots. I then decided to change some of the gradient colours on my short film. I also changed some of the transitions as I wanted blackout transitions instead of a straight shot switch. In the screenshot we can see some of the process that helped me change the colour gradient.

Editing – problem solving. Sample Footer Text 4 Halfway through my editing process I had some problems with premier pro that caused me to have to change the media I was editing on. I then changed to cap cut where I had to re start my whole process again. This meant that I was unable to save any changes from premier pro. I used this to my advantage as I was able to use my initial idea and quickly upload all my videos. I used similar transitions and experimented with some sounds and lighting techniques, as well as camera shots and angles.

Editing Sample Footer Text 5 One of the main issues that I had to overcome was that I filmed vertically instead of horizontally , this meant that I was unable to make my project fit the screen horizontally for a short film. To overcome this, I decided to zoom out on my clips , change the perspective to horizontal and zoom in until the frame fit. I did start to rerecord my work however I decided this would have been the best option to continue with the original footage as it would have set me back a day on planning and I would have had to extend my permission to record on the premises.

Editing Sample Footer Text 6 In this screenshot you can see the time and the shot as well as the frame size. This was during the first draft I had created on cap cut after losing my work on premier pro. Here we can see where the music comes to a stop near the blue line. I have experimented with different songs and sounds , all copyrighted for protection purposes.

Draft 1 Sample Footer Text 7 Sent on teams over we transfer When looking at my first draft it looks very plain. There is no transitions or music it's just straight shots. When looking back at my editing process I tried to use this as a baseline. I added more shots and played around with sounds. This then progressed into adding more footage that was filmed the next couple of days. Overall, as my first draft I don’t believe it is that bad however it is to be improved and have more transitions and music.

Draft 2 For my second draft I have decided to try black and white. I tried to experiment with different colours. I changed the gradient as I thought I would want some colour in it. However, I then changed it to a filter as this was more grey scale. The shots are still the same, but I have added more transitions in. I signed up to a 7-day cap cut trial to experiment with more transitions and movements within my short film Although I like the grey scale I have decided to just adjust the lighting and brightness. Sent on we transfer

Post -production diary Sample Footer Text 11 Filming – March 6 th 2024 This is the day that I started filming. Me and madison Henderson travelled to the city centre from college and filmed a couple of shots. I had a lot of footage for my first draft as I was experimenting with camera angles, shots and sizes. We started at 10 am on Wednesday , this consisted of using the college facilities and get some initial ideas filmed. After this we got some shots around the city centre eventually travelling back to my house to get more scenes filmed. I wanted to showcase musical equipment, so we played around and experimented with different ideas that I changed around within my editing process.

Post- production diary Sample Footer Text 12 Filming – 7 th March 2024 On this day I wanted to get some shots around my room of the inspiration of music. This section of filming consisted of around 1 hour from 4pm. I was able to show some videos and record some playing of instruments.

Post -production diary Sample Footer Text 13 Filming – 8 th march 2024 On this day we travelled back to the town centre. This is where we filmed the last section of my short film. I wanted to showcase the development of music therefore I went to some of the most well-known music places in Sunderland and got some shots outside of there. We also got some personal footage and looked at what angles we could do to improve the previous shots. This consisted of filming from 3pm till 5 pm.

Post- production diary 14 I have gathered some evidence for my post-production diary, on the 10 th march I started editing my short film, this consisted of making drafts at first and playing around with some initial shots. I made two drafts. In my first draft I just added shots together in an order that had a clear story line. In my second draft I decided to play around with black and white focus shots. This led me to adding filters and altering the gradience and lighting. As we can see in the screenshot I have included, it is black and white. There is a couple of more shots that I felt would look good with colour therefore decreasing the black and white left some of the original tone .

Post -production diary 15 Sample Footer Text Here we can see some more of the editing process. I edited my first drafts and then took from the 11 th of march till the 13 th to edit my shorty film. I experimented with some music as we can see however as I wanted a perfect song to match it was cut too short and only lasted one minute. I then investigated copyright and did checks on my short film that came back as copyright and would not be eligible to use. I then progressed into adding more shots and different music. To add this music, I screen recorded a non-copyright instrumental song and removed the video and embedded the audio to add it to my short film, this was very time consuming however the song matches perfectly to my editing. I also added some more transitions into this. . It took me around 4 hours to complete In total. I am quite happy with my final product and I am hoping to get some good feedback.

Behind the scenes. Sample Footer Text 16 These are some of the behind-the-scenes shots that were taken. As you can see these are from different shots throughout in different locations. Some consisting of my room and college campus. This showcases some of the main shots that I will be using. My focus would be an eye level medium shot. I will also be deep focusing on my camera so that everything is the same.
