Poultry farm management involves overseeing the various operations and activities required to run a poultry farm efficiently and profitably. It includes a range of tasks related to the care, feeding, and breeding of poultry, as well as the maintenance of the farm's facilities and equipment. Key aspects of poultry farm management include:
1. **Housing and Environment:**
- Ensuring poultry housing is suitable, providing adequate space, ventilation, and temperature control.
- Maintaining cleanliness to prevent disease and promote healthy living conditions.
- Implementing biosecurity measures to prevent the spread of diseases.
2. **Feeding and Nutrition:**
- Providing balanced and nutritious feed to meet the dietary needs of the poultry.
- Ensuring a consistent supply of clean water.
- Managing feed costs while optimizing growth and production.
3. **Health and Disease Management:**
- Monitoring the health of the poultry regularly.
- Vaccinating against common diseases and administering necessary medications.
- Isolating sick birds to prevent the spread of illness.
4. **Breeding and Production:**
- Selecting and breeding poultry to improve stock quality and productivity.
- Managing egg production, including collection, handling, and storage.
- Monitoring growth rates and production metrics to ensure optimal performance.
5. **Record Keeping and Financial Management:**
- Keeping detailed records of feed consumption, production rates, health status, and financial transactions.
- Analyzing data to make informed decisions and improve farm efficiency.
- Managing budgets, expenses, and revenues to maintain profitability.
6. **Labor Management:**
- Training and supervising farm workers to ensure they perform their tasks effectively.
- Ensuring labor safety and adherence to farm policies and regulations.
7. **Marketing and Sales:**
- Identifying market opportunities and demand for poultry products.
- Developing strategies for selling eggs, meat, or other poultry products.
- Building relationships with buyers and distributors.
Effective poultry farm management requires a combination of knowledge, skills, and experience to ensure the health and productivity of the poultry, as well as the profitability and sustainability of the farm.

Those birds which renders useful services to mankind and reproduce freely under his care and management is called poultry. Chicken, turkeys, pigeons, geese, ducks etc. POULTRY FARMING is the rearing of domesticated birds kept by humans for the eggs they produce, their meat, their feathers, or sometimes……as….pets . Introduction to Poultry
Poultry Rearing 4
Dimensions of Poultry Shed Length = 450 feet Width = 42 ft Height = 7.5 ft Area=18,900Sq.ft 5 Cellulose Honeycomb Evaporative Cooling pads
Day-old chicks means all poultry less than 72 hours old, Not yet fed… Order placed a Month ( Depends on DOC & Market rate When get Ready ) before your Shed Preparation. … 2 % extra. DOC Order
II. Feed Order As important as the DOC Order. You should manage the feed order as; Atleast a week Before Flock Arrival at Shed You have a time to Inspect the feed Care about Road Blocks Political Instability Price Fluctuation Season ( Wet Season Have Chances of Toxins Production in feed) Every Rearing Company have Their Own Code Words to refer type of Feed But Feed Composition is According to Age (weight) of Birds and their Nutritional Requirement. Mostly 4 Different Feed compositions are there; (For Broilers) Pre-Starter Starter Grower Finisher Last 3 are mostly Practiced…
III . Litter order & Management Ordered before Start of Shed Cleaning And Disinfection . Litter Material is the bedding for poultry Birds Standard; 2-3 Inch throughout the Shed(Season and Purpose based ) Standard value for litter required Per Sq.ft = 400gm/ Sq.ft (8 ton) Rice husk Wood Shavings etc Purpose ; Litter plays a vital role in absorbing the moisture, promotes drying by increasing surface area of the house floor diluting fecal materials insulates chick from cooling effects of the ground and provide a protected cushion . Litter conditions influence bird performance, which in turn affects profits of growers Highly Adsorbant 6) Cheap & Locally available Light in weight 7) Compatible when sold as Fertilizers. Medium Particle size 8) Non Toxic Dries rapidly Comfortable to birds
IV . Preparation of Shed Step #01 Cleaning & Disinfection 1) Washing of Walls ,Roof,Pads & Fans Simple water Disinfect with Surf solution. 2) Cleaning of Drinker lines 5:400L of H 2 O 2 & H 2 O ( For 8-12hrs ) Wash with Simple water 3) Cleaning of Drinkers and Feeders Apply Surf to Drinkers and Feeders Add Acid( Acetic Acid) to drinkers pan (For 4-5 hrs ) Clean with Fresh water 4) Cooling Pads Pressure Water 5) Applying Caustic( NaOH ) to the Floor Sprinkle NaOH on Floor, apply water & Place for 8 hours Wash with Water 6) Limestone inside Spread on Floor Walls are Brushed 2-3 feet 7) Clean the Outer area of Shed Herbicides Spray, Litter & Feathers removal (Do Burning & Spray Formalin)
Step # 02 Biosecurity Biosecurity is defined, in general terms, as the set of sanitary and preventive measures that, if applied permanently, prevent and avoid the entry and exit of infectious agents. These measures should be applied in general in all animal production systems.
V. Hatchery Visit; Average Weight = 40gm Flip over test ( 3 sec ) Navel ( Clean & Well healed ) Legs( Clean & waxy ) Beak Defects( Blindness,Poor Feathering etc ) Vaccine Detail( Expiry Date,Name,Route ), Temp and Humidity at Chicks holding Room. Vaccinators Management of Vaccine Process to ensure every bird have got required vaccine dose.

VII . Ventilation Flow or Exchange of Air( Gases) between internal & External Environment of Shed Controlled Shed Poultry Farm is based on Negative air Pressure Where Tunnel fans or Side fans take Outside the internal air creating Vaccum that is Filled by air moving inward through Pads and Vents. Tunnel Ventilation 2) Transitional Ventilation 3) Minimum Ventilation 4) Natural Ventilation
VIII. Brooding & Brooding Management BROODING: Brooding is the management and care of the young chicks from the day of their hatching upto time When birds are able to maintain their temperatures, it involves the provision of heat, food and water as these are the basic amenities of life. In case of broilers their brooding phase started from day old to 14 th day, while in case of breeders and layers it is extended till 8-9 weeks of their life.

xIII . .Reach to Ideal Weight( 2.7-3 kg) The feed conversion ratio (FCR) is the amount of feed ingested by an animal which can be converted into one kilo of live weight. This definition also applies to a single-age poultry flock held in an enclosed house . FCR= 27.27 FEED CONVERSION RATIO(FCR): = Live birds* Avg. weight /Total Feed/1000 Daily Gain Weekly Gain(160gm/230gm/410gm/490……) Avg Flock weight at X # of day % Mortality etc (14360/18.18%)
XIV. Catching Sale out of birds at Ideal weight (2.5kg)
In conclusion, effective management of a broiler poultry farm requires attention to several key areas: O ptimal housing conditions, P roper nutrition, Biosecurity control E fficient resource management. By implementing best practices in these areas, farmers can ensure the health and productivity of their broilers, leading to increased profitability and sustainability.
