How to calculate consumption of electrical
energy?
(Wattage × Hours Used Per Day) ÷ 1000 = Daily Kilowatt-hour (kWh)

1 kWh=1 UNIT

1 kilowatt (kW) = 1000 Watts

EXAMPLES (PER DAY USAGE)
Question.How much units(kwh) of
energy is consumed
by a bulb of 60 watts
per hour ?
=60 WATTS
Answer. For one hour if you are turning on the light, it consumes
60 watts, that means it consumes 60/1000=.06 units of energy and if
it is kept ‘on’ for 12 hours likewise when we are in hurry to reach
office or college the energy lost for 12 hours is
(60*12)/1000=720/1000=.72units

Power consumed by CFL lamp of 20 watts
working for 4 hours?
= 20 WATTS
Answer. 20 watts 4 hours=80/1000=.08 units

What is the difference between CFL and a
colloquially called tube light/fluorescent
lamp?
•CFL bulbs have an electronic circuit in the base
of the bulb. A miniature transformer that
produces high voltage enough to ionize the gas
in the tube.
•Tube lights are simply connected to the pins at
the base. External ballasts must be used to
supply the high voltage necessary to start the
lamps.

How much units(kwh) of energy is
consumedby a vaccum cleanerof
500 watts working 2 hours?

=500 WATTS
Answer. 500watts 2 hours=1000/1000= 1unit

Energy consumed by a ceiling fan working for
6 hours?
=100 WATTS
Answer . 100 watts ×6 hours =600/1000 = .6 unit

Energy consumed by a iron box working for 6
hours?
=1100 WATTS
Answer. 1100 watts ×6 hours=6600/1000= 6.6 units

HERE WE GO
Personal Computer and Monitor
FOR MAKING THIS PRESENTATION,ie
ALMOST 3 AND HALF HOURS...TILL NOW.

COMPUTER+ MONITOR
=120 Watts + 150 Watts
=270 WATTS
Answer. 120watts+150watts=270 watts ×3.5 hours=945/1000
=.945 unit

Laptop working for 3 hours

= 50 WATTS
Answer. 50watts × 3hours=150/1000= .150 unit

Laser Printer working for 1 hour?
=375 WATTS
Answer. 375watts ×1hour=375/1000=.375 units

Refrigerator working for
2 ½ hours?
= 380 WATTS

Refrigerator = 16 cu. ft.
Answer. 380 watts 2 ½ hours=950/1000=.95unit
1 cubic feet=28.31 liters

Induction cooker of 3.6kw with a load max of
3.2 kw working for 45 minutes at various?
• 20 MIN consumes 600Watts
• 10 MIN consumes 1500 Watts
• 15 MIN consumes 3.2 kW=3200 Watts
Answer. 600 1/3=200/1000 =.2 units
1500 1/6=250/1000 =.25units
3200 1/4=800/1000 =.8units
Total = .2+.25+.8 = 1.25 units

And our IDIOT BOX (TV) working for 3
hours watching a film?
=100 WATTS
Answer .100watts × 3hours=300/1000=.3 unit

Set top box working for 5 hours?
= 50 WATTS MAXIMUM
Answer. 50 watts 5hours=250/1000=.25unit

Satellite dish working for 4 hours?
= 50WATTS
Answer. 50watts 4 hours=200/1000=.2unit

Microwave Oven of rating 1660 W working
for 45 minutes?
= 1660 WATTS
Answer . 1660watts 3/4 hours=1245/1000=1.245 units

Air conditioner rating of 1200 watts working
for 2 ½ hours?
=1200 WATTS
Answer. 1200 watts 2 ½ hours=3000/1000 =3 units

Washing Machine working for ¾ hours
= 512 WATTS
Answer. 512watts ¾ hours= 384/1000 =.384 unit

Pump set of 1.5 hp power working 1 ½
hours?
1 hp=746 watts
1.5 746 =
1119 WATTS
Answer.1119watts 1 ½ hours=1678.5/1000=1.678 units

Cell Phone - recharging for 4 hours
for an year?
= 4 WATTS
Answer.4watts 4hours 365days=5840/1000 =5.840units/year

DO YOU KNOW?
If you have plugged your mobile charger for 8
hours without switching ‘off ‘ what amount of
electricity is wasted,
that is > (vampire power)
Answer . 6.5kWh ≥ 6.5 units/year
6.5/365 =.0175units per day
