Personal Pronouns

Review: Directions: Divide the words into two syllables. 1. picnic 2. catnip 3. tennis 4. ribbon 5. woman

This is a family picture. Let’s identify nouns in the picture. Use your finger to point out and name every noun that you see in the family picture.  

Nouns or name words are names of persons, places, things, animals, and events. They are important in communication, especially in reading and writing. With the use of nouns, it is easier to identify who is being talked about.

However, to avoid repetition of names, personal pronouns are used. These words are used as replacement or substitutes to nouns.

In this lesson, you will learn what personal pronoun is and its use in a sentence. You can also apply your knowledge in using pronouns in your day- to- day activity. This module provides you with activities that will help you learn about pronoun.

• Pronouns are words that are used in place of nouns.   These include: I, you, we, she, he, they and it.  

Read and observe the following sentences. Examples:

Directions: Match the pictures with the appropriate pronouns. Write the letter of the correct answer on a sheet of paper.

Directions: Choose the appropriate pronoun for the given picture. Write your answer on a sheet of paper.

Directions: Match Column A with Column B by writing the letter before each number. Write your answer on a sheet of paper.

Answer the questions. • What are nouns? • What words are used in place of nouns?

Assessment: Directions: Choose the correct pronoun. Write the appropriate pronoun on a sheet of paper.

Additional Activity: Direction: Write four (4) sentences about yourself and underline the personal pronouns used in your sentences. You may ask your parents to help you.

Review: Directions: Put a check mark ✔ if the underlined personal pronoun is correct. Put a cross mark X if it is wrong.

Personal Pronouns

Review: Directions: Write the correct personal pronoun in each sentence.

Read the following sentences.

The underlined words are examples of a noun and a personal pronoun. The name “Dr. Elizabeth Santos” is an example of a noun. A noun is a word that names a person place or thing. The word “ I ” is an example of a personal pronoun

The words: I, You, We and They are personal pronouns. Personal pronouns are words that take the place of nouns in a sentence.

We use the personal pronoun he when we substitute the name of a male person.

We use the personal pronoun she when we substitute the name of a female.

We use the personal pronoun it as a substitute for the name of an animal, an event, an object, or a place.

Choose the correct personal pronoun inside the parentheses.

The answer is I . The word I is a personal pronoun referring to the one who is speaking. The character used the personal pronoun I in talking about herself. It is always written in a big letter.

The answer is We . The personal pronoun we is used because the speaker is referring to himself and another person.

The answer is They . The personal pronoun they is used because the speaker is talking about a group of people. The word they replaced the names Dan and Ana.

Directions: Copy all the personal pronouns in the short story. Write them on a sheet of paper.

Remember: Personal Pronouns represent specific people or things. They replace names of persons, things or animals.

These personal pronouns are: I – refers to the speaker We – refers to the speaker together with other persons You – refers to the person being talked to

He – replaces names of boys She – replaces names of girls It – replaces names of objects or things They – refers to persons or things being talked about
