acknowledgment
I would like to express my special thanks of
gratitude to my teacher science teacher ,
who gave me the golden opportunity to do
this wonderful project of chemistry on
composition of alloys and uses
I came to know about so many things I am
really thankful to them
Secondly I would also like to thanks my
parents and friends who helped me a lot in
finalizing this project within the limited
time frame
❑An alloy is a homogenous mixture of two or more metals, or a metal
and a non-metal.
Example: Brass is an alloy formed by mixing of two metals, copper
and zinc.
❑They are widely used in various industries for their benefits
❑Alloys can be created through mixing, melting, or diffusion
❑Exploring the composition and uses of alloys is crucial.
❑In total, 20 alloys are highlighted, and they range from household
names (i.e. bronze, sterling silver) to lesser-known metals that are
crucial for industrial purposes (i.e. solder, gunmetal, magnox)
Let us talk about some alloys in detail
introduction
Brass
•Brass is composition of copper and zinc (Cu+Zn)
•Brass isa metal alloy of copper and zincthat typically has
a golden-yellow color but can be closer to red if the alloy has
high levels of copper (this is known as “red brass”). Brass is
known for its excellent workability, machinability, and
antibacterial and anti-biofouling characteristics.
•Brass is still commonly used in applications where corrosion
resistance and lowfrictionare required,
suchaslocks,hinges,gears,bearings,ammunitioncasings,
zippers,plumbing,hose couplings,valves, andelectrical
plugs and sockets. It is used extensively formusical
instrumentssuch ashornsandbells
Bronze
▪Bronze is composition of copper and tin
(Cu+Sn)
▪Bronze is good for manufacturing small parts,
bronze casting, architecture, bronze wool,
sculptures , Lamp, fountains and door , mirrors,
Musical instruments ,Coins and medal
▪It is known for its strength, durability, and
aesthetic appeal
▪However, other metals can also make up bronze,
such as aluminum, nickel, zinc, phosphorus and
manganese. Depending on which elements make
up bronze, the alloy’s hardness, ductility,
flexibility and other properties can vary
German silver
❖German silver is composition of 60% copper, 20%
nickel and 20% zinc
(Cu+Zn+Ni)
❖German silver is widely used because of its
hardness, toughness, and resistance to corrosion
for articles such as tableware, fittings in parts of
ships that are under the sea, and plumbing
fixtures. Due to its high electrical resistance, it is
used also in heating coils
stainless steel
➢stainless steel is composition of 72% of iron, 17-
19% of chromium and 7-9% of nickel with carbon
(Fe) +(Cr) +(Ni) + (C)
➢Stainless steel is commonly used for Culinary uses
,Kitchen sinks ,Cutlery ,Cookware , Surgical tools
and medical equipment ,Surgical implants
,Temporary crowns ,Architecture ,Airport roofs,
Automotive and aerospace applications ,Auto bodies,
Rail cars, Aircraft
➢Stainless steel, also known asinox,corrosion-
resistant steel(CRES) andrustless steel
❑Duralumin is composition of 95% aluminium, 4%
copper, 0.5% manganese and 0.5% magnesium
(AI)+(Cu)+(Mg)+(Mn)
❑ It is used for making wire, bar, and rods for screw
machine products. It is used in places where good
strength and good machinability are required.
❑It is used for making Aircraft structures, truck
wheels, screw machine products, rivets, and other
structural application products.
❑It is used as a sheet for the auto body panels.
❑It is also used in forgings, in aircraft engine
pistons, impellers of the jet engines, and compressor
rings.
❑It is also used for making die and hand forgings
duralumin
❖Magnaliumis composition of
5%magnesiumand 95%aluminum
(Al)+(Mg)
❖Magnalium is used inmaking
aircrafts and automobile parts. The
magnalium alloy in its powdered form
is highly flammable and thus,
magnalium can be used to produce
sparks. The reactivity of magnalium is
higher than that of aluminium and
thus, on burning magnalium forms hot
and bright yellow sparks.
magnalium
conclusion
It was wonderful and learning experience for me while
working on this project
This project took me through various aspects of project
and taught me about alloys composition and there uses.
It also gave me real insight into this project
This project was full of thrill and joy. I learned a lot
about it
Thankyou for giving me this project
I enjoyed every bit of doing it
