➢Boiler:Generates steam by heating water using fuel combustion.
➢Turbine:Converts steam energy into mechanical energy.
➢Generator:Converts mechanical energy from the turbine into electrical energy.
➢Condenser:Converts exhaust steam from the turbine back into water. It increases the
efficiency by enabling the reuse of water in the cycle.
➢Cooling Tower:Removes excess heat from the water used in the condenser.
➢Fuel Handling System:Manages the storage, transportation, and preparation of fuel.
Ensures a consistent and efficient supply of fuel to the boiler.
➢Ash Handling System:Collects and disposes of ash produced during fuel combustion.
Includes ash hoppers, ash conveyors, and disposal methods.
➢Feedwater System:Supplies water to the boiler after it has been condensed. It includes
feedwater pumps, heaters, and deaerators.
PARTS OF THERMAL POWER PLANT
➢Superheater and Reheater: Superheater increases the temperature of steam
above its saturation point. Reheater reheats the steam after partial expansion in the
turbine to improve efficiency.
➢Economizer: Preheats the feedwater using residual heat from the flue gases before
it enters the boiler. Enhances overall efficiency by reducing fuel consumption.
➢Air Preheater: Preheats the air used for fuel combustion using residual heat from
flue gases. Improves the combustion efficiency and reduces fuel usage.
➢Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD) Unit: Removes sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the
exhaust flue gases to reduce air pollution.
➢Chimney (Stack): Discharges flue gases into the atmosphere at a height that
disperses pollutants and reduces environmental impact.
➢Control Room: Monitors and controls the operation of the thermal power plant.
Equipped with systems for automation, safety, and emergency handling
