- the distance around the circle Diameter Radius radius diameter circumference Pi ( ) read as “pie” Circumference - a line that passes through the center - a line segment from the center of the circle to any point of the circle - it is one -half of the diameter - is the ratio of circumference of a circle to its diameter - 3.14 is its approximated value REVIEW
MOTIVATION Show a tribal musical instrument What is the shape of Gong? Where and when do we use the Gong? Are you proud of your own tribe (Manobo- Kulamanon )? If you are proud of being a Manobo, will you be ashamed of being one?
Finding the Circumference of a Circle
CIRCUMFERENCE - is the distance around the circle Formula in finding the circumference of a circle: C = π x d Where: π = 3.14 d = diameter PRESENTATION OF THE LESSON
Example 1: Solve for the circumference of the Gong having a diameter of 10 cm C = 31.40 cm Givens: π = 3.14 d = 10 cm Using the formula: C = π x d C = 3.14 x 10 cm 10 cm
Example 2: Darwin cleaned their circular backyard with a diameter of 20 m. What is the distance covered by Darwin in cleaning? Givens: π = 3.14 d = 20 m Using the formula: C = π x d C = 3.14 x 20 m C = 62.80 m 1. Are you cleaning your backyard? 2. Why is it that we need to keep our surroundings clean? The distance covered by Darwin in cleaning is 62.80 m.
Example 3: Solve for the circumference of the given illustration. Givens: π = 3.14 d = 2 x r = 2 x 7 in = 14 cm Using the formula: C = π x d C = 3.14 x 14 cm C = 43.96 cm 7 cm
Example 4: Solve for the circumference of the given illustration. Givens: π = 3.14 d = 2 x r = 2 x 9 in = 18 in Using the formula: C = π x d C = 3.14 x 18 in C = 56.52 in 9 in
By Pair Activity Solve for the circumference of the circle. Use the formula C = π x d ( π = 3.14) Find the circumference of the hula hoop with a radius of 3 feet. 2. What is the circumference of a circle having a diameter of 7 centimeter? 3. Solve for the circumference of a ring having a radius of 2 centimeter. 4. Find the circumference of the frying pan with a diameter of 8 inches.
GROUP ACTIVITY The class will be divided into 3 groups. Every group will be provided by answering materials. The task should be done after 5 minutes. Output should be posted on the board. Leader should assign a reporter of their output. Each group will be graded based on the given RUBRICS .
What is the formula in finding the circumference of a circle? C = π x d where: π = 3.14 d =diameter GENERALIZATION Why is circle important in our life what would the world be like without circles? How can you compute the circumference when the given is radius? Simply multiply the radius by 2 to get the diameter then multiply to the value of pi (3.14)
Direction: Read then solve the given problems. (5 points each) 1. Find the circumference of a circle with a diameter of 5 meters? 2 . A circular pool has a radius of 6 meters. Find its circumference. EVALUATION
