BATCH
MANAGEMENT

At the end of the course You will
a.Understand the purpose Batch
Management
b.Understand different terminologies in
Batch management
c.Batch Management in different
modules
d.Traceability with Batch
e.Summary

PURPOSE OF
BATCH
MANAGEMENT

Product produced according to the
Recipe and in one homogenous mixture
which can not be reproduced
It is mainly used in
Food product manufacturing
Chemical manufacturing
Process Industries.
Batch Management

Example of Batch
Batch will have its own unique value of ingredients
E.G A Dairy product with Batch Number 1512200601 may
have its ingredients as below
Fat 10%
Cholesterol2%
Vitamin A 10%
In the above example Fat, Cholesterol and Vitamin A
becomes characteristics
Values of the above characteristics may be unique to this
batch

Terminologies in Batch Management
Batch characteristics
It is the property of the batch which has to be
attached to the batch.
Example:-

Fat content is the required property of a dairy
product which has to be displayed with the
batch.
Fat content becomes the batch characteristic.

Terminologies in Batch Management
Batch class
Class is the carrier of characteristics.
Class will be attached with the material master.
Example:-

Dairy_Product Class can contain characteristic
Fat content.

Dairy_Product class will be attached to all dairy
product material code numbers in classification
view of material master.

Terminologies in Batch Management
Production Date:-
Date when the product was produced.
Expiry Date:-
Date beyond when the product can no longer be
used
Shelf life period:-
It is the duration of any product when product
can be used.
Recurring inspection:-
Inspecting the product at periodic interval to
check its shelf life.

Terminologies in Batch Management
Batch Status:-
Condition of the Batch usability will be known
from the batch status.
Restricted Stock status of a batch indicates it
can not be used.
Unrestricted stock status of a batch indicates it
can be used for consumption.

Terminologies in Batch Management
Batch Search Strategy:-
While issuing the goods for process order or
production order, batch number of components
can be searched through Batch search strategy.
Batch Number can be searched based on any
characteristic value

Terminologies in Batch Management
Condition Technique – (Condition Table):-
System searches the batch through predefine
tables in a sequence which are known as
condition table and Access sequence.
Condition table specifies the fields combination
to be searched. Condition table is defined in the
configuration.
Condition record contains the value to which the
batch is to be searched. Condition record is a
Master Data.

Terminologies in Batch Management
Condition Technique – (Access Sequence):-
System searches the batch through predefine
tables in a sequence which are known as
condition table and Access sequence.
Accessing sequence to the defined condition
tables is defined in Access sequence.

BATCH
MANAGEMENT
IN DIFFERENT
MODULES

Batch Management in MM
Materials Master (Purchase view) must have a
Batch Management active to the materials which
are to be handled in Batches.
Batch classification containing characteristics
will be assigned with the material master in
Classification view.
Shelf life details are maintained in Storage1 view
with shelf life period.

Batch Management in PP
Materials Master (Work Scheduling view) must
have a Batch Management active to the materials
which are to be handled in Batches.
Batch creation during process order / production
order processing is to be mentioned in Material
Master Work Scheduling view.
Batch number to the components can be
searched through batch search.
Batch number to the finished products are
assigned.

Batch Management in SD
Batch number can be searched during Delivery.
Batch number for any specific product can be
searched through batch search strategy during
delivery.
Customer returned products with batch can be
traced quickly.

BATCH
MANAGEMENT
TRACEABILITY

Batch Traceability
Batch number will help to trace its entire activity
in the system.
Batch number can fetch
Date of Production
Date of Expiry date
Ingredients of a product in that batch
Production or Process Order number
Customer returned products with batch can be
traced quickly.
Batch number can help in identifying the vendor
by maintaining proper batch numbering.
Prior information about product expiry date of a
product can be obtained through reports.

Shelf Life Expiration Date
Shelf Life details are capture in the system.
Production Date or Expiry has to be mentioned
in the GR for the system to calculate Shelf life
automatically.
Storage view of the material master must have
Shelf Life Expiration Details to perform the
above.
Standard report will provide the list of product
with available expiry date.
