What is our topic?
“Remediation through Phonemic Awareness”
Objectives: identify statements or texts that are written in parallel structures; appreciate and recall real-life situations where parallel structured statements are used; and compose their own piece using parallel structures.
Phonemic awareness is the ability to hear, identify, and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words, which is crucial for the development of reading and spelling skills.
Early assessment and identification of students with weak phonemic awareness skills are crucial. Tools such as phonemic awareness assessments can help identify students who need targeted intervention.
“Effective Remediation Strategies”
Phoneme Segmentation: Activities where students break words down into their individual sounds (e.g., tapping out sounds using counters).
Phoneme Blending: Exercises that help students combine individual sounds to form words (e.g., oral blending games where students listen to segmented sounds and blend them to make words).
Phoneme Manipulation: Tasks where students change, add, or remove sounds in words to create new words (e.g., changing the first sound in "cat" to /h/ to form "hat").
Interactive Games and Activities: Incorporating fun, engaging activities like "Sound Bingo" or "Phoneme Matching" can make the learning process enjoyable and effective.
