SUMMARY
Staff will present a report the potential for
traffic circulation impacts around the high
school construction project
Options to calm and direct traffic on neighbor-
hood streets will be presented for discussion
BACKGROUND
The Alamo Heights High School project will displace
a total of 222 on-campus parking spaces during
construction (120 student parking spaces)
Teachers and staff will be relocated to alternate
parking spaces around the campus (102 spaces)
AHISD acquired two parcels of land having a
combined capacity of 204 available parking spaces
for displaced students

BACKGROUND
Projected Impact: Increase in student traffic in the
neighborhoods on the west side of Broadway in
proximity to the school
Greatest impact anticipated: W. Castano Ave.,
Tuxedo Ave., W. Fair Oaks Dr., and W. Elmview Dr.
between Nacogdoches Rd. and Broadway (parking
lot access/egress points)
TRAFFIC CONTROL OPTIONS
Current resident concerns: neighborhood safety,
speeding & traffic volume
Proposed for discussion:
Add a new stop sign location on Columbine St. where it
intersects W. Elmview Dr. (priority)
Install 25 mph speed limit signs on the listed streets where
they intersect Nacogdoches Rd. and Broadway (priority)

direct traffic movement exiting parking lots where
necessary
Avoid sending traffic back into the neighborhood

Least desirable –neighborhood dissatisfaction

The Texas Transportation Code, Sections
542.201 and 542.202 “Powers of Local
Authorities” authorize a local authority to enact
or enforce an ordinance or rule and may
regulate traffic
COORDINATION
Consult / Coordinate with Alamo Heights ISD
Staff will discuss new sign locations with
property owners
City Manager approved the presentation to the
City Council
FISCAL IMPACT
Not expected to exceed $2,500 for signs and
poles
