INTRODUCTION Child abuse is when a caregiver, whether through action or failing to act, causes injury, death, emotional harm or risk of serious harm to a child. There are many forms of child maltreatment, including neglect, physical abuse, sexual abuse, exploitation, and emotional abuse.

DEFINITION Child abuse is any action by another person – adult or child – that causes significant harm to a child. It can be physical, sexual or emotional, but can just as often be about a lack of love, care and attention. An abused child will often experience more than one type of abuse, as well as other difficulties in their lives.

DEMOGRAPHICS The total abuse rate of children is 25.2 per 1,000 children, with physical abuse accounting for 5.7 per 1,000, sexual abuse 2.5 per 1,000, emotional abuse 3.4 per 1,000, and neglect accounting for 15.9 per 1,000 children .

PREVALENCE IN INDIA India has largest number of children in the world (375 million), nearly 40% of its population. 69% of Indian children are victims of physical, emotional, or sexual abuse. New Delhi, has an over 83% abuse rate. 89% of the crimes are committed by family members. Boys face more abuse (>72%) than girls (65%). More than 70% of cases go unreported and unshared even with parents/ family

BATTERED CHILD Battered child syndrome refers to non-accidental injuries sustained by a child as a result of physical abuse, usually inflicted by an adult caregiver . Internal injuries, cuts,  burns ,  bruises  , and broken or fractured bones are all possible results of battered child syndrome.

CAUSES history of being  abused   Physical or mental illness. Family crisis or stress , domestic violence marital conflicts family who is developmentally disabled.

SYMPTOMS poor self-image Sexual acting out inability to love or trust others Aggressive, disruptive, or illegal behavior Anger, rage,  anxiet y Self-destructive or self-abusive behavior Suicidal thoughts

DIAGNOSIS history collection physical examination X-ray MRI

TREATMENT treatment for battered child syndrome will according to the type of injury incurred. Counseling and the implementation of an intervention plan for the child's parents or guardians are necessary.

PROGNOSIS

PREVENTION Recognizing the potential for child abuse and the seeking or offering of intervention, counseling, and training in good parenting skills. use of educational programs to teach caregivers good parenting skills and to be aware of abusive behaviors

PARENTAL CONCERN Parents who are in danger of abusing their children should seek professional counseling . Parents should also exercise caution in arranging other caretakers. If they suspect abuse, they should immediately report those suspicions to the police or to their local child protective services agency

SUMMARY Today we have discussed about the child abuse and causes, diagnosis ,prognosis, treatment and parental concern

CONCLUSION Child abuse comprises of misbehavior done against the children. It can be in a form of physical abuse, sexual abuse, mental abuse. Maltreatment with the children, harassment, inflicting any injury to the child are all considered under this child abuse. In India, there are various rules, regulations and laws have been formed to stop this child abuse and strict action will be taken against those who will commit this crime.

research article ‘Child abuse and neglect in a rapidly developing country: Parents' perspectives’ Purpose:  To identify parental awareness and knowledge regarding child abuse and neglect in the State of Qatar. Methods:  A cross-sectional study using a questionnaire was conducted at Hamad Medical Corporation, the only tertiary pediatric hospital in the State of Qatar at the time of the study.

CONTI.. Results:  300 questionnaires were completed (response rate = 95%). More than 70% of parents were older than 30 years of age, 60% of them were females, and 66% were college graduates. The majority of the participants stated their familiarity about child abuse, and 6% witnessed morbidity or mortality due to child abuse in the society onclusion :  Parents residing in the State of Qatar believe that they have a good knowledge regarding child abuse and neglect
