PE and Health 4 Quarter 3 – Week 5 1. Discuss the benefits of eating a balanced meal in engaging in physical activities. 2. Apply the balanced meal as one of their healthy eating habits. 3. Prepare a balanced meal to stay healthy and allow active participation in physical activities.

DAY 1

Begin with a recap: "Last week, we talked about the different nutrients in our meals and the importance of water. Can anyone remind us why water is important for our body?"

"Today, we will see how water and food help us when we’re active, like when we jog or play. This activity will help us feel the effects of staying hydrated and having energy from our meals."

Sentence practice for group sharing: "After jogging, I felt ____. Drinking water made me feel ____ ."

Introduce the main concept: "Physical activities like jogging use up energy and make us sweat, so we need both energy from food and water to stay strong and hydrated."

Explain how the activity will help them understand: “As we jog, you’ll notice how your body feels when you drink water after each round. Think about how this affects your energy and comfort level.”

Activity: Jog and Drink Experiment Procedure: Ask the students to form three lines. Let them jog around the basketball court five times. For every round, ask the students to stop and drink their water. After resting for 15 seconds, ask them again to jog around the court. After finishing the fifth round, ask the students to gather around.

Facilitate a group discussion to summarize learning: How did you feel after the activity? What helped you continue the activity until the end? Why do you think it's important to eat a healthy meal before physical activities? How does eating nutritious foods affect your physical performance? How did drinking water after each lap make you feel? How does physical activity change your water needs? Why is water important for overall health and well-being?

Use responses to the discussion questions to assess understanding.

DAY 2

Why do you think it's important to have different types of food on your plate?

Sing a Healthy Eating Song Pinkfong ! Kids' Songs & Stories. (2017, October 11). A healthy meal | Healthy eating song | Healthy habits | Pinkfong songs for children [Video]. YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZ11C-U7S8I

Unlocking Content Area Vocabulary Healthy eating- Eating healthy means following a healthy eating pattern that includes a variety of nutritious foods and drinks. It also means getting the number of calories that's right for you (not eating too much or too little) (Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, n.d.)

Balanced Meal- A balanced meal is a snapshot of a diet that covers the three core food groups. As seen on this portion plate, the balance is a quarter protein, a quarter carbohydrate and half vegetables ( Rorlach , n.d.)

Balanced Diet- This means eating a wide variety of foods in the right proportions, and consuming the right amount of food and drink to achieve and maintain a healthy body weight (NHS, 2022)

SUB-TOPIC 1: Benefits of Balanced Meal and Balanced Diet in Engaging in Physical Activities Explicitation What are the principles of healthy eating?

After the time set for the group discussion, the teacher will ask the different group members to present the content of their Pinggang Pinoy through body spelling. This means that the students need to spell the words as a group through their body parts. For example, if they wrote the word rice, the group may present it this way:

Why is it important to eat a variety of foods? How does this help our bodies during physical activities?"
