PLANETS OF THE SOLAR SYSTEM

Two categories of planets 1. Terrestrial Planet – those are the planet near in the sun, they are no rings and they are small planets.

Terrestrial Planet

Two categories of planets 1. Jovian Planet – those are the planet from in the sun, they have supported rings and they are large planets.

What are the 2 categories of planets in our solar system? Terrestrial Planet and Jovian Planet

What are the planets belong to Terrestrial planets? Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars

What are the planets belong to Jovian planets? Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune

What planet is nearest to the sun? Mercury

Why Venus is the hottest planet? Because of its thick atmosphere carbon dioxide.

What is the third planet from the sun? Earth

What is the difference of planet Earth in other planets? Planet Earth is the only planets that can sustain life .

ASSESSMENT

. Direction: Choose the letter of the correct answer. Write your answer on the line provided before its number .

__6. Which of the following is NOT a terrestrial planet? a. Earth b. Jupiter c. Mars d. Venus

__7. Mercury is closer to the sun than Venus. But Venus is hotter than Mercury. Why do you think so? a. Mercury has no atmosphere and Venus has a thick atmosphere of carbon dioxide which can retain the heat. b. Mercury is mostly made up of sedimentary rocks while Venus contain Igneous rocks. c. Mercury being closer to the sun, sun absorbs the heat of the mercury. d. Mercury is smaller than Venus.

__8. Which compares the characteristics of Mercury and Jupiter? a. Mercury is closest planet while Jupiter is the farthest planet to the sun. b. Mercury is smallest planet while Jupiter is the largest planet c. Mercury is the hottest planet while Jupiter is the coldest planet. d. Mercury is a gas giant planet while Jupiter is ice giant planet.

__9. How Earth and Venus similar to each other? a. Venus and Earth have the same distance from the Sun. b. Venus and Earth have almost the same temperature. c. Venus and Earth have almost the same size. d. Venus and Earth are Jovian planets.

__10. Which of the following reasons describes why Earth is really different from other planets in the solar system? a. Earth is the only rocky planet. b. Earth is the only planet which is its environment known to sustain life. c. Earth is the only planet which is blue because of carbon dioxide. d. Earth is the only planet composed of nitrogen.
