Introductory Module Practice power point

Highlighting When an important term or concept is presented in one of the power point presentations, it will be in bold, underlined, green text. For instance, blogs are used to share information with the whole class and journals allow each of you to communicate only with the instructors. Like this 2

Key to symbols Throughout your power points, you will encounter the following symbols: ♫ 3

Important! There are a few concepts that will be EXTRA important for you to remember as the course proceeds. These concepts will be accompanied by the megaphone symbol. In presentation mode, there is a sound associated with the symbol if you mouse over the symbol. 4

Journal assignments At each point within a power point at which it would be appropriate to answer one of your Journal questions, you will see the clipboard and pad symbol. In presentation mode, there is a sound associated with the symbol if you mouse over the symbol. 5

Questions/problems Throughout the power points we will provide questions or problems for you to work out on your own. The answer or worked-out problem will be on the notes section of the same slide. These will be flagged with the question mark icon. In presentation mode, there is a sound associated with the symbol if you mouse over the symbol. 6

Notes page Some slides will have information on the associated Notes page. The musical notes icon will indicate you should check the Notes. The Notes can be accessed by clicking on “Normal” in the View menu to reveal the notes below each slide, or clicking on “Notes Page” in the View menu to see only the slide and its notes. We will also provide an MS Word document with the text of all notes, listed by slide number, for those of you who can only view power point documents in slide show mode. ♫ 7

Pencasts Whenever there is a link to a pencast tutorial for the material on a slide, you will see the SmartPen icon. For instruction on accessing, viewing, and manipulating these pencasts, click on the “Help with TECHNOLOGY” course menu button, then click on “Course-Specific Help.” Scroll down to “LiveScribe.” Download Pencast-how-to.pptx and view the presentation. Links to Pencasts will also be available in the “Power Point and Related Materials” folder for each module. Practice pencast 8

Videos There will be some videos (and possibly some animations) related to the power point material. Their availability will be indicated by the video icon and a link for the video itself. Since variations in systems and browser set-ups can affect your ability to view certain videos, we will also include links to the videos in the “Power Point and Related Materials” folder for each module. Practice video—Hover your cursor over the image and click on the triangle. 9 There IS a brief drop-out of sound at about 43 seconds—it’s not your computer!
