IndiatobeaSovereignSocialistSecularDemocraticRepublic
committedtoJustice,EqualityandLibertyforthepeople.
•ThePreambledoesnotgrantsubstantiverightsandisnot
enforceableinthecourts,butvariousIndiancourtshave
engagedwiththePreambleandhavetreateditasguidinglight
intheinterpretationoftheConstitution.
•TheopeningandlastsentencesofthePreamble:“We,the
people…adoptenactandgivetoourselvesthisConstitution”
signifiesthepowerthatisvestedinthehandsofthepeople.
