Precision
of
language
Miss Aneal's Class
The Giver by Lois Lowry
What is
precision of
language?
Precision of language means making sure to use the
right word to express EXACTLY what you want to
communicate.
"Distraught is too strong an
adjective to describe salmon
viewing." He turned and wrote
"distraught" on the instructional
board. Beside it he wrote
"distracted".
"I'm feeling apprehensive," he
confessed, glad that the
appropriate descriptive word
had finally come to him.
