Creams Creams are semisolid emulsions containing mixture of oil and water.
Vanishing Cream (o/w) (dry cream) They disappear when applied & rubbed onto the skin. These creams provide emollient and protective action to the skin against environmental conditions by forming a neither greasy nor oily semi-occlusive residual film . They are named so as they spread as thin oil-less film when applied on the skin and this film is not visible to the naked eye. They are used to hold powder on the skin and to improve adhesion.
Ideal propertiesof vanishing cream It should have a high melting point. It should be pure white in colour . It should possess a very slight odour . It should have a less amount of iodine.
Method of preperation Formula:-
Method of preperation Procedure:- Stearic acid is melted. A solution of alkalis is prepared in water and added with glycerine . This solution is added to the melted stearic acid with steady agitation. Stirring is continued till the temperature of mixture drops down to 40°C. A suitable perfume is dissolved in alcohol and added to the final solution. The batch is left undisturbed for a day before filling.
