J-1 ‘Intern/Trainee’ (Hospitality and Tourism designation—up to 12 months
J-1 ‘Management Trainee’ (Business Administration designation)—up to 18 months
in all departments, excluding Culinary.
TN (NAFTA) visa – 1-3 year petitions and renewable indefinitely
How long can an intern/trainee stay?
Lengths of visas will vary by program and candidate:
Am I bound to be an intern/trainee for the whole internship/traineeship?
No. If you feel the intern/trainee’s work is not satisfactory, you are under no obligation
to continue the relationship. However, our satisfaction rate with all our hotels
and resorts has been 100%, and we are dedicated to keep these good results.
What taxes should be paid for the intern/trainee
during his J-1 internship/traineeship?
Taxes you should pay: Federal Income Tax, State Income Tax & City Income Tax.
Taxes you should not pay: Social Security Tax, Medicare & Fed unemployment

19. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Internship Program—Internship participants are available to begin internship
opportunities depending on their school calendar. Once the Host Company and
participants are matched, it generally takes six to eight weeks to process the
students' J-1 visas.
Training Program—Training participants are available to begin training
opportunities year-round. Once the Host Company and participants are matched,
it generally takes from six to eight weeks to process the graduates' J-1 visas.
How long does the J-1 placement process take?
The placement process varies in length depending on the participants' nationalities.
In general:
When are the participants available to start?
Interns and Training participants are suited to start year-round.
Who provides housing for the participants?
Placement International does not pay for or provide housing for program participants.
Some Host Companies will provide housing to participants either as part of the
compensation package or for a fee. If a Host Company does not provide housing, then
Placement International will create, together with the Host Company, a list of housing
alternatives in the area.
