CONDITIONALS UNIT 5

ZERO CONDITIONAL If + present, present Example: If he gets his vitamins every day, he doesn´t get sick (or he doesn’t get sick if he gets his vitamins) You use zero conditional to talk about truths, universal facts.

FIRST CONDITIONAL If + present, future simple (will/won’t + verb) Example: If she studies for the test, she will get a good mark. (or she will get a good mark if she studies for the test) You use the first conditional when something is likely to happen.

SECOND CONDITIONAL If + past simple, conditional simple (would/wouldn’t + verb) Example: If he won the lottery, he would quit his job (or he would quit his job if he won the lottery) You use second conditional when you want to talk about an imaginary situation, quite unlikely to happen.

THIRD CONDITIONAL If + past perfect, conditional perfect (would/wouldn’t have + past participle) Example: If I had had enough money, I would have gone to Dua Lipa’s concert (or I would have gone to Dua Lipa’s concert if I had had enough money) You use third conditional to regret about something from the past which you cannot change.
