Origin of Oda

Eiichirō Oda was born on January 1, 1975 in the city of
Kumamoto, in the prefecture of the same name on the
island of Kyūshū, Japan. Since he was a child, Oda was
fascinated by pirates and dreamed of being a manga
artist.
At age 17, Oda submitted his first work, a cowboy
manga called Wanted, to Weekly Shōnen Jump
and won several awards, including second place
at the prestigious Tezuka Awards. This opened
the doors for him to work at the magazine, first
as an assistant to other manga artists such as
Nobuhiro Watsuki in Rurouni Kenshin.

su mayor exito
During this time, Oda created two pirate-themed short stories called Romance
Dawn, which featured the character Monkey D. Luffy. In 1997, One Piece debuted in
Weekly Shōnen Jump and quickly became the most popular manga in Japan. One
Piece has since become the best-selling manga in history, with over 490 million
copies printed worldwide.

vida privada
In his private life, Oda married Chiaki Inaba in
2004. They have two daughters and Oda has
commented that he plans to travel the world with
his family when One Piece finally ends. Oda is
known for working tirelessly on manga, often
taking few vacations.
Currently, at 49 years old, Oda continues to write
and illustrate One Piece weekly for Weekly
Shōnen Jump. The series has been in publication
for more than 25 years and Oda has said that he
has approximately 5 more years left to conclude
it. Oda has also ventured into writing light novels
based on One Piece.
In 2016, Oda donated 800 million yen to help
rebuild his hometown of Kumamoto after it was
devastated by earthquakes. In recognition of his
generosity and achievements, the Governor of
Kumamoto awarded him the prestigious Honor
Award in 2018.
