AMPV (Avian Metapneumo Virus) DATE : 5-6 MAY 2024 QL AGROFOOD INDONESIA DIVISION COMERCIAL LAYER FARM

HISTORY INITIAL DIAGNOSIS Swollen eyes, high mortality, and a drop in production. These are the clinical signs we noticed when we first made our diagnosis– Infectious Coryza. After a course of antibiotic treatment, mortality rate dropped. However, after 2 months , the signs reoccurred. And even worse, this time it had spread to pullet. In pullet, the severity of the clinical signs were much worse, with signs such as turbid discharge from nasal cavity, swollen eyes coupled with severe Colibacillosis infection . We have came to a conclusion, this case, it is not as simple as Infectious Coryza. It is- AMPV infection.

AMPV AMPV (Avian Metapneumovirus, also known as Swollen Head Syndrome) is a viral disease that causes catarrhal inflammation. The site of inflammation would be at the sinuses (infra and supra orbital). The first stage of inflammation causes oedema, hence the swollen face. This causes extreme discomfort to the bird and even worse, the inflamed site introduces bacteria to invade, leading to secondary bacterial infection.

Clinical signs and Pathologic Lesions Swollen eyes and face (asymetrical and symetrical when it cronic) . Clear exudate (Odorless) from nasal cavity Snicking and Sneezing Dull and thin Reduced feed intake Post mortem lesions: Chronic colibacillosis lesions – Airsacculitis , pericarditis, perihepatitis, peritonitis, salphingitis )

Impact of Ampv infection AMPV in normal situation Normally , AMPV infection causes damage to the respiratory tract, introducing secondary bacterial infection to the site. With the treatment of antibiotics, this issue can be resolved quickly. More so, the infected birds don’t even need AMPV vaccination because the antibody produced will be sufficient to fight off the disease. AMPV in QL Agrofood Layer But , in Agrofood Layer Farm this is not the case. AMPV infection in this farm is complicated with infection of virulent E.coli (APEC), which treatment of antibiotics can be futile most of the time.

Usage of probiotic A MPV live vaccine on Day 5 and Week 7 th A MPV killed vaccine on Day 5 and Week 9 th Antibiotic treatment Probiotic treatment(customized probiotic profile) Probiotic contains Bacillus strain 747 with 81-100% inhibition ( Corellink ) to pathogenic E.coli isolated from farm.

CONCLUSION - Depletion Graph of Case, Action Taken 1, dan Action Taken 2 Case (Before action): AMPV outbreak happened at week 13 th , with persistent high depletion which does not reduce immediately. Action 1: AMPV outbreak happened earlier, which is on week 8 th , with high depletion as well. But this time, the depletion rate reduced fair quickly. Action 2: Normal depletion AMPV infection causes immunosuppression, leading to secondary bacterial infection especially pathogenic E.coli infection. AMPV diseases can be overcome with vaccination program, treatment of antibiotic and the correct probiotic.
