Comparison of intra- lesional platelet rich plasma and triamcinolone injections in the treatment of Alopecia areata Dr. Nighat Resident Dermatologist Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar

Introduction Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease with an incidence of 1-2% of population. There are many treatment options for alopecia areata but none of them is curative rather it stops the pathogenic process. Intralesional corticosteroids are used commonly with varying rate of success and side effects. Platelet- rich plasma (PRP) is an easy, safe, cheap, and efficient treatment for alopecia areata with efficacy comparable to intralesional steroids

Patient after successful I/L triamcinolo ne

PATIENT OF 3 SESSIONS OF I/L TRIAMCINOLONE

AFTER 3 SESSIONS OF PRP

Discussion: Findings are comparable with a study carried out by Roohaninasab M et al. Albalat W et al have reported greater hair re-growth after treatment in both groups.

Limitations: Small sample size Lack of follow up to look for relapse.
