CHARLES CORREA WAS BORN ON 1 SEPTEMBER
1930,SECUNDRABAD.
HE BEGAN HIS HIGHER STUDIES AT ST. XAVIER'S
COLLEGE, MUMBAI. HE WENT ON TO STUDY AT
THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN, AND THE MIT
WHERE HE OBTAINED HIS MASTER'S DEGREE.
HE DIED ON 16 JUNE 2016, MUMBAI AT THE AGE
OF 84.
CHARLES CORREA'S CAREER SPANNED OVER SIX
DECADES, FROM THE 1950S TO 2015.
CORREA WAS A PIONEER OF MODERN INDIAN
ARCHITECTURE, AND HIS WORK HAS HAD A
SIGNIFICANT IMPACT ON THE COUNTRY'S BUILT
ENVIRONMENT.

IN MUMBAI, A BUILDING HAS TO BE ORIENTED EAST-WEST
TO CATCH THE PREVAILING SEA BREEZES, AND OPEN UP
THE BEST VIEWS IN THE CITY; ARABIAN SEA ON ONE SIDE
AND THE HARBOUR ON THE OTHER. BUT THESE
UNFORTUNATELY ARE ALSO THE DIRECTION OF HOT SUN
