Types of electricity Power generation 1. Thermal power plant 2. Hydro electricity plant 3. Solar power plant 4. Wind energy plant 5. Nuclear power plant
Thermal power plant India is home to numerous thermal power plants which are renowned all over the world. About 70% of the electricity consumed in India is generated through thermal power plants. Total 91 thermal plants in India .
Power Generation Scenario In India Thermal Power --- 1,00,000MW Hydro Power --- 65,000MW Nuclear Power --- 10,000MW Other sources --- 20,000MW Total Installed Capacity--- 1,95,000MW

Process of generating electricity
Water plant Since there is continuous withdrawal of steam and continuous return of condensate to the boiler, losses due to blow down and leakages have to be made up to maintain a desired water level in the boiler steam drum. For this, continuous make-up water is added to the boiler water system. Impurities in the raw water input to the plant generally consist of calcium and magnesium salts which impart hardness to the water.
Coal plant Is a plant in which coal is storage used for fire and to produce heat which convert water into steam The coal is generally conveyed to crushers which crush the coal to about 3⁄4 inches (19 mm) size. The crushed coal is then sent by belt conveyors to a storage pile. Normally, the crushed coal is compacted by bulldozers, as compacting of highly volatile coal avoids spontaneous ignition . The crushed coal is conveyed from the storage pile to silos or hoppers at the boilers by another belt conveyor system .
B oilers A boiler is a closed vessel in which water or other fluid is heated. The heated or vaporized fluid exits the boiler for use in various processes or heating applications , including boiler-based power generation, cooking, and sanitation. Types of boilers 1. water tube boilers 2. fire tube boilers
T urbine A turbine is a rotary mechanical device that extracts energy from a fluid flow and converts it into useful work A turbine is a turbo machine with at least one moving part called a rotor assembly, which is a shaft or drum with blades attached. Moving fluid acts on the blades so that they move and impart rotational energy to the rotor
Cooling tower Cooling tower works on natural draught system Cooling towers are heat removal devices used to transfer process waste heat to the atmosphere Natural draft — Utilizes buoyancy via a tall chimney. Warm, moist air naturally rises due to the density differential compared to the dry, cooler outside air. Warm moist air is less dense than drier air at the same pressure. This moist air buoyancy produces an upwards current of air through the tower
Efficiency increase steps
Water softening plant The use of a water softening plant in case of modern boiler is must and demanding. It specifies that the impurities of water should not exceed 0.04 .p.p.m. and silica should not exceed 0.01 p.p.m . some advantages water softening plant 1. Less corrosion 2. Easy to convert into steam
Improve the method of heating Heating the water by superheated steam . The saving of vaporization in case of supertical pressure boilers.
Coal treatment Fossil types of fuel is used in power plant In coal treatment plant we treatment the coal at which we crush the coal into small pieces and after that we burn that and this steps increase the efficiency of power plant and that why all type of power plant should use this types of steps for increase the efficiency .
Arrangement of tubing plant In case of water tube boilers ,the water tube are arranged in parallel instead of a single continuous long tube to reduce the pressure losses due to friction . In case of once through boilers the entire water circulated in the tubes is converted directly into steam in a single continuous tube. We should make pipe of thermal plant with respects to corrosion less and
E nvironment of plant 1. transportation of raw material such as coal , water etc. 2. recyclisation of wastages .
