Introduction
In "The Great Gatsby," F. Scott Fitzgerald's iconic novel, the green
light holds a profound symbolic significance, representing both aspiration
and unattainable dreams. The green light is located at the end of Daisy
Buchanan's dock, across the water from Jay Gatsby's mansion, in Novel.

The most prominent Symbol is the color green, Green symbolizes
Gatsby's hopes and dreams, particularly his desire for wealth, success, and
love. Additionally, the color green is associated with the pursuit of the
American Dream and the illusionary nature of materialism.

Overview of Novel :

"The Great Gatsby" is a novel written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, published
in 1925. Set in the Jazz Age, it follows the narrator, Nick Carraway, as he
becomes entangled in the lives of his wealthy neighbor, Jay Gatsby, and
his cousin Daisy Buchanan. The novel explores themes of the American
Dream, wealth, love, and the emptiness of materialism, ultimately
critiquing the excesses of the Roaring Twenties. Fitzgerald's vivid prose
and complex characters paint a picture of the era's glamour and moral
decay, making "The Great Gatsby" a celebrated work of American
literature.

pursuit of his version of the American Dream to win
back Daisy and relive their past love affair.
●The Green light stands as a constant reminder of
Jay's aspirations and fuels for his determination of
achieve them.
●It often represents wealth and materialism but also
hold connotation of envy and desire.
●The Juxtaposition between east egg ( where Daisy
resides) and west egg (Gatsby's residence) also
Symbolize by Green Light.(Burnam)

●The Green Light acts as a tangible representation of the divide between old
money (Daisy) and new money striving for social acceptance (Gatsby).

●The Green Light is constant hope for Jay that once Daisy will come back to
him.
●Along with the Green Light can symbolize Platonic love as well.

.

Reality Vs Illusion :

●The theme of illusion versus reality, as Gatsby's fixation on it blinds him to
the truth of his situation with Daisy. Despite his efforts, the green light
remains out of reach, emphasizing the fleeting nature of dreams and the
disillusionment that accompanies their pursuit.

●Fitzgerald exposes the contrast between appearances and realities,
highlighting the emptiness and disillusionment that often lie beneath the
surface of the glittering Jazz Age.

Resemblance of Green Color in Bollywood :

●In Bollywood films, the recurring use of green color often symbolizes jealousy
and envy among characters. This symbolism is evident in the
cinematography, where green-tinted lighting or green-colored props are
employed to convey feelings of resentment, rivalry, and possessiveness.
Additionally, green attire worn by characters during scenes of conflict or
betrayal further reinforces this association with jealousy. The consistent use
of green as a visual motif effectively enhances the storytelling, allowing
viewers to interpret and understand the complex emotions and relationships
portrayed on screen.

Conclusion :

F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby," where the green light serves as a
poignant representation of the interplay between reality and illusion.
Through characters like Jay Gatsby and symbols like the green light,
Fitzgerald masterfully explores themes of the American Dream,
disillusionment, and the elusive nature of desires. The analysis of color
symbolism in literature showcases its profound impact on storytelling.
