EFFECTS OF GARLIC EXTRACT IN ALOPECIA AREATA
Garlic(Allium sativumL.)
Today, garlic is added to hair care products as a topical
and oral supportive agent and is widely used in treating
alopecia areata in traditional medicine worldwide due to
its benificial properties.
It is known to have
Anti inflammatory effects
Antioxidant properties
Immunomodulatory activity
Stimulate circulation
ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EFFECTS:
Garlic contains compounds like allicin, which
possess anti-inflammatory properties. In alopecia
areata, inflammation plays a key role in hair
follicle damage. Garlic extract may help reduce
inflammation in the affected areas, potentially
slowing down hair loss and promoting regrowth.
ANTIOXIDANT PROPERTIES:
Garlic is rich in antioxidants, such as vitamin C
and selenium, which can help protect cells from
damage caused by oxidative stress.
By neutralizing free radicals, garlic extract may
support the health of hair follicles and promote a
conducive environment for hair growth.
IMMUNOMODULATORY ACTIVITY:
Alopecia areata is considered an autoimmune
disorder, where the immune system mistakenly
attacks hair follicles.
Garlic extract has been suggested to modulate
immune responses, potentially reducing the
autoimmune attack on hair follicles and allowing
for hair regrowth.
STIMULATING CIRCULATION:
Garlic extract may also promote blood circulation
when applied topically to the scalp.
Improved blood flow to the hair follicles can
enhance nutrient delivery and oxygen supply,
supporting healthy hair growth.
APPLICATION METHODS:
Topical Application:
Garlic extract can be applied topically to the
scalp.
This may involve preparing a garlic-infused oil or
using commercially available garlic extract
preparations.
It's essential to dilute garlic extract to avoid skin
irritation or burns.
CONCLUSIONS:
Garlic is an efficient and rapid topical treatment
for alopecia areata.
It is cheep, and easily available and withno side
effects.
