Network Topology To form a computer network , computers and other devices muse be interconnected in some layout. The layout in which various computers are connected to form a net work is called topology.
The following sections discuss the physical topologies used in network and other related topics . Bus Topology. Ring Topology. Star Topology. Mesh Topology. Tree Topology. Types of Topology
Bus Topology In this topology all nodes in a network are connected to a single length of the transmission medium , called a bus which is normally a co-axial cable . Both ends of the cable are terminated be terminators. Data transmission from any work station can travel in both directions .
Star Topology Star Topology is a network Topology in which each network component is physically connected to a central node such as router ,hub , switch . In a Star Topology , the central hub acts like a server and the connecting node acts like clients.
Tree Topology A Tree Topology is a sort of structure in which each node is related to the others in a hierarchy order. In a topological hierarchy , there are at least three distinct levels. Sometimes it is also called hierarchical topology as in this topology , all elements are arranged like branches of a tree.
Ring Topology A Ring Topology is a network configuration where device connections create a circular data path . Each networked device is connected to two others , like points on a circle . Together devices in a ring topology are called a ring network.
Mesh Topology A Mesh Topology is a network setup where each computer and network devices are interconnected with each other and network device is inter-connected with one other . This topology setup allows for most transmissions to be distributed even if one of the connections goes down . It is a topology commonly used for wireless networks .
