INTRODUCTION
➢Belt grinding is a rough machining procedure utilized on wood and different materials. It is commonly utilized
as a completing procedure in industry.
➢A belt, covered in rough material, is kept running over the surface to be handled so as to evacuate material or
create the ideal finish
➢This Belt Grinder project is made from wood
➢This Mini grinder Project consists of 775 motor which is fundamentally rotates the pulley attached to it, along
with a mini grinder, grinding paper and an abrasive belt grinder
➢ The second pulley is attached to the wooden base vertically with the tensioner spring
➢Grinding paper is then fitted in pulley. To support the mini grinder a base frame is provided, it helps in grinding
wooden material.
➢Components used for making this belt grinder are DC motor, spring, base Frame (support frame), abrasive
grinder belt, coupling and a pulley.
➢Belt grinder helps to shape the material without putting much effort and produced accurate results.

BASICS OF MINI BELT GRINDER
➢A mini belt grinder is a compact, versatile power tool used for grinding, sanding, and polishing small metal,
wood, and plastic workpieces.
➢A mini belt grinder operates on the principle of using a continuous loop of abrasive material, known as a
sanding belt, to grind, sand, and polish small metal, wood, and plastic workpieces.
Key principles of Mini Belt Grinder :
•Abrasive action: The sanding belt is coated with abrasive particles that remove material from
the workpiece through friction and abrasion.
•Belt Speed: The speed of the sanding belt determines the rate of material removal and the finish
quality.
•Belt tension: Proper belt tension ensures consistent abrasive action, prevents belt slippage, and
maintains optimal grinding performance.
•Contact pressure: The pressure applied to the workpiece determines the depth of cut and the
finish quality.
•Cooling: The mini belt grinder's design allows for airflow and cooling, which helps prevent
overheating and extends the life of the sanding belt.

WORKING OF MINI BELT GRINDER
➢The abrasive belt is used to grindthe material.
➢This abrasive belt isrotated by the single phaseinduction motor.
➢In our project where the component are arranged over the frame structure.
➢ This project consists of end bearings with bearing cap, roller wheel, shaft, single phase induction
motor and abrasive belt. This whole arrangement is fixed on the frame structure where the component
rests.
➢The rollerwheel is mounted on thetwo end bearings withbearing cap by suitable arrangement. There
are two roller wheel is used in our project to rotate the abrasive belt. One side of the rollerwheel shaft,
one v-pulley is coupledby the suitable arrangement. The single phase induction motor withv-pulley
arrangement is used to rotate the abrasive belt through the belt drive mechanism

APPLICATIONS
Mini belt grinders are used in many industries for grinding, sanding, and finishing materials.
They can be used to grind materials into different shapes and sizes, and often used to smooth
out surfaces and remove burrs.
➢Deburring: Removing burrs, radiusing, and breaking edges.
➢Finishing: Smoothing surfaces, polishing and removing micro burrs.
➢Stock removal: Removing high amounts of materials, cleaning, and eliminating tool marks.
➢Surface cleaning: Removing corrosion and other unwanted surface elements.
➢Wood grinding: Grinding woods
➢Edge preparation: Preparing the edges of tool bits.
➢Metalworking: Used to finish metal surfaces.
➢Woodworking: Used to grind wood

ADVANTAGES
➢Mini belt grinders can be used in a variety of locations .
➢Theyare small and rigid.
➢It can be used for a variety of materials.
➢It requires minimal maintenance.
➢They can quickly finish jobs.
➢They use low energy and stay cool.
DISADVANTAGES
➢The abrasive belt should be changeable one for different material. This process takes
more time.
➢They are only suited for small grinding applications.

CONCLUSION
➢The mini abrasive belt grinding have stronger cutting ability than that on the grinding wheel.
➢ The wheel grinding is having some disadvantages in the form of time required to finish the surface,
material removal rate, surface finish obtained etc. To overcome such disadvantages this vertical abrasive
belt grinding machine is used.
➢ Maximum area of the belt comes in contact with workpiece due to which material removal rate or
surface finish rate is more in less time as compared to wheel grinding machine.
➢Aluminium oxide belt hardness makes it suitable for use as an abrasive and as a component in cutting
tools with significant proportion.
