AnovelcoronaviruswasreportedtotheWorldHealthOrganization(WHO)inChinaon31December2019.TheWHOnamedthediseaseCOVID-19on
11February2020.Asof26February2020,thediseasehasbeendetectedonallcontinents,exceptforAntarctica.DailyupdatesonCOVID-19sinceearly
February2020havemadeheadlinenewsworldwideformuchof2020.Thispostergivesinformationaboutspreadandpreventionofnovelcoronavirus.
HowdoesCOVID-19spread?
•COVID-19spreadsmainlybydropletsproducedasa
resultofcoughingorsneezingofaCOVID-19
infectedperson.Thiscanhappenintwoways:
Directclosecontact:onecangettheinfectionby
beinginclosecontactwithCOVID-19patients(within
oneMetreoftheinfectedperson),especiallyiftheydo
notcovertheirfacewhencoughingorsneezing.
Indirectcontact:thedropletssurviveonsurfacesand
clothesformanydays.Therefore,touchinganysuch
infectedsurfaceorclothandthentouchingone’smouth,
noseoreyescantransmitthedisease.
TheincubationperiodofCOVID19(timebetween
gettingtheinfectionandshowingsymptoms)is1to14
days.
Somepeoplewiththeinfection,butwithoutanyserious
symptomscanalsospreadthedisease.

1.HowtoavoidgettingCOVID-19orspreadingit?
a)PracticeSocialDistancing:
Avoidgatheringssuchasmelas,haats,gatheringsin
religiousplaces,socialfunctionsetc.
MaintainasafedistanceofatleastoneMetrebetween
youandotherpeoplewheninpublicplaces,especiallyif
theyarehavingsymptomssuchascough,feveretc.to
avoiddirectdropletcontact.
Stayathomeasmuchaspossible.
Avoidphysicalcontactlikehandshakes,handholdingor
hugs.
Avoidtouchingsurfacessuchastabletops,chairs,door
handlesetc.
b)Practicegoodhygiene
Washyourhandsfrequentlyusingsoapandwater:
Aftercominghomefromoutsideormeetingotherpeople
especiallyiftheyareill.
Afterhavingtouchedyourface,coughingorsneezing.
Beforeandafterusingtoilet,cleaning.
Beforepreparingfood,eatingorfeedingchildren.
Prevention is better than cure!

Covid-19.Tillthedatethereisnofull-prooftreatment
optionisavailablefornovelcoronavirussopreventionis
itsbestformtoremainuninfectedbyit.

Conclusion
Itcannotbeover-emphasizedthatatrulyeffectiveinternationalpreparednessandresponsecoordinationmechanismcannotbemanaged
nationally.Globalcooperation,collaborationandinvestmentarenecessarytoensureasaferfuture.Thismeansamultisectoralapproach
tomanagingtheproblemofglobaldiseasethatincludesgovernments,industry,publicandprivatefinanciers,academia,international
organizationsandcivilsociety,allofwhomhaveresponsibilitiesforbuildingglobalpublichealthsecurity.Inachievingthehighestlevel
ofglobalpublichealthsecuritypossible,itisimportantthateachsectorrecognizesitsglobalresponsibility.
