2. Also known as relationship base nursing, develop in early 1970’s, uses some of the concept of total patient care, and brings the RN back to the bedside to provide clinical care. Primary nursing is one type of patient care delivery that require a one-to-one relationship between an RN and the patient, with responsibility for planning and managing care clearly established. 3. When the primary nurse is not on duty, associate nurses, who follow the care plan established by the primary nurse. Although design for use in hospitals, this structure lends itself well to home health nursing, hospice nursing, and other health care delivery enterprises.

4. An integral responsibility of the primary nurse is to establish clear communication, among the patient, the physician, associate nurses and other team members. Although the primary nurse establishes the care plan, feedback is sought from others in coordinating the patient’s care. The combination of clear interdisciplinary group communication and consistent, direct patient care by relatively few nursing staff allows for holistic, high quality patient care.

5. Although job satisfaction is high in primary nursing, this method is difficult to implement because of the degree of the responsibility and autonomy required of the primary nurse. However for these the same reasons, once nurses develops skills in primary nursing care delivery they feel challenged and rewarded.

6. In team nursing, lie primarily in improper implementation Inadequately prepared or incompetent primary nurse maybe incapable of coordinating a multidisciplinary team or identifying complex patient needs and condition changes. Disadvantages

7. Many nurses maybe uncomfortable in this role or initially lack the experience and skills necessary for the role. Although all RN nursing staff as not been prove to be more costly than other modes of nursing, it sometimes has been difficult to recruit and retain enough RNs, especially in times of nursing shortage

8. Currently LVNs and LPNs serves as associate nurses in some facilities, although the role of the primary nurse should be reserved for an experienced RN who has an appropriate scope of requisite skills for the role.
