SELECTION IN CROSS-POLLINATING
CROPS

Themethodsofselectionusedinthecaseofcross-pollinatedcropsare:
1.MassSelection
2.RecurrentSelection
Slide 11
MASS SELECTION
Massselectionisthetechniqueinwhichindividualplantsareselected
onthebasisoftheirperformanceandthebulkedseedsareusedto
producethenextgeneration.Sincephenotypeisthesolecriterionof
selectioninmassselection,itsefficiencydependsonthemagnitudeof
heritability.Severalmodificationsofmassselectionarealsobeing
practiced:
•SelfedPlantMassSelection
•ProgenySelection
